The Miami Dolphins enter the 2022 NFL offseason with a league-high $67.5 million in projected cap space and one clear goal. They need to figure out by the end of the 2022 NFL season whether Tua Tagovailoa is their future at the quarterback position or not. Miami needs to know this because the decision on Tagovailoa's fifth-year option is due by this time next year. The Dolphins fired head coach Brian Flores because he never truly gave Tua a chance to win over the locker room with his indifference towards young players. This is Tagovailoa's chance to truly be “the man” in Miami, and the Dolphins must give him the best tools available to truly test him out. Here are three players that Miami could add that would give Tua no chance at any more excuses.

Chargers Free Agent Targets for 2022 NFL Offseason

3. Rashaad Penny

Penny burst onto the scene late in the 2021 NFL season as he actually gained more yards than he had in the first three years of his career over an 8-game span. Finally healthy for the first time in his career, it comes at a perfect time for the former San Diego State star. Running backs have not been doing so well on the free-agent market in recent years and the production gotten from those running backs has not been worth the money spent. Will that deter Miami? Maybe a little bit on the price and number of offers that they give out, but they are still sitting on the most cap space in the league at the end of the day so they can afford to overpay if they want to get their man.

2. Ryan Jensen

Jensen has been remarkably consistent throughout his NFL career, especially since signing with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2018. Over the last four years, Jensen has not missed a snap and also became a Super Bowl champion in 2021. The type of leadership, toughness, and availability that he would bring to the Dolphins would be immeasurable. Jensen would only need to move his family down the state a bit and that has to be a huge plus. Adding Jensen will also go a long way towards the Dolphins' goal of deciding on Tua by the end of  2022.

1. Davante Adams

Adams is the number one free agent, period, regardless of position or scheme fit. He will do well with whatever team he goes to. Whether that is the Las Vegas Raiders, back to the Green Bay Packers, following Aaron Rodgers to his next destination, or signing with the Dolphins, there is virtually no chance that Adams busts in free agency. There is always the risk that he will not be as productive when he goes from the best quarterback in the NFL to one of the least experienced starters, but that is really just splitting hairs. Adams has been a model teammate and tireless worker in Green Bay and he has earned himself the right to choose where he plays next. If he follows the money, that may just be on down to Miami.

If the Dolphins can bring in these three players, it will give the team all that it needs in order to fully evaluate Tua. If he cannot win after these additions to the offense, it will become very clear that it is time for Miami to move on.
