The Denver Nuggets head coach Michael Malone joined ESPN’s ‘Lowe Post’ podcast with NBA expert Zach Lowe recently to discuss a variety of topics. One of the subjects that were addressed was that his mother does not like people calling him Mike; another one was the potential of his Nuggets team.

“I feel really, really blessed. I had an opportunity to coach at Sacramento and things didn’t work out but things happen for a reason. Working with an owner like Josh Kroenke is amazing and Tim Connelly, I can honestly say that we have great communication, we challenge each other, we’re honest with each other but we’re aligned with what we’re trying to do,” Malone said.

Whilst reflecting on last year’s performance, Malone expressed how much faith he has in his youthful roster.

“We were a young team last year and we got a little bit younger through the draft which we’re excited about. It’s tough to win big in the NBA when you’re this young, but we feel we have a lot of good young players and assets. And you balance that with guys like Danilo Gallinari and Kenneth Faried, Darrell Arthur. People forget but we consider Wilson Chandler a free agent signing (he missed all of last season). This is a long-term play. This is an opportunity to show improvement, for our players to get better and we have a chance to be here for a while.”

Denver certainly has youth and talent on their side, and Malone will now hope he can influence growth in the young group as they attempt to improve on last year’s 33-49 record.
