Everyone is wondering whether or not the New England Patriots are going to be buyers or sellers at the NFL trade deadline on Tuesday. While the deadline looms, Willie McGinest — a former player of the Patriots and current analyst on NFL Network — spoke about his dream trade of New England acquiring Michael Thomas.

“…How about Michael Thomas from the New Orleans Saints goes to New England?” McGinest said on “NFL Total Access.” “You know about these big types of trades they’ve had. Reggie Wayne went there. Remember Chad Johnson? Remember a guy by the name of Corey Dillon? Randy Moss?

Thomas, who set the NFL receptions record in 2019, hasn't suited up for the New Orleans Saints since Week 1. The All-Pro wide receiver has dealt with multiple injuries and was suspended for a game due to an altercation with teammates in practice.

With his situation in New Orleans being a huge question mark, some people believe Thomas could be had for the right price. However, Sean Payton has since nixed any trade rumors involving Thomas, saying he's not available via trade.

Throughout the years, we've seen the Patriots make trades or moves to acquire talented players from different situations. But with New England not poised to contend this season, trading for Thomas may not be in the cards for them.

Plus, would the Patriots be willing to consume the rest of Thomas' massive contract? The 27-year-old wide receiver signed a five-year, $96.25 million extension with the Saints in 2019 and still has $84.75 million in cap hits remaining on his current deal.

Whether Thomas gets dealt by New Orleans ahead of the trade deadline remains to be seen. And while McGinest would love to see him in New England, a deal that ships Thomas to the Patriots doesn't seem incredibly likely.
