The Michigan State Spartans are having a bit of a down year this year. Entering Tuesday, the Spartans were 9-6 in Big Ten play, and 18-8 overall. They traveled to Iowa to square off with the #25 ranked Hawkeyes and were handed a brutal 86-60 loss. After the game, ESPN college basketball announced and legend, Dick Vitale, shared his thoughts on Michigan State on social media.

Vitale tweeted: “MSU Basketball plays hard but just limited offensively/ this is not a vintage Tom Izzo team. He has gotten max from this squad. Don't have a STAR to lead the way.”

On Tuesday, the Spartans only had one player score in double figures. Junior forward Malik Hall scored 17 points off the bench. Tom Izzo's starters had a total of 19 points, which speaks to Vitale's point. The Spartans do not have that one player that can take over games like they have in the past.

Entering Tuesday, ESPN Bracketologist Joe Lunardi had Michigan State listed as a #6 seed in the tournament. But after this loss, they are sure to drop at least one line.

The Spartans' Izzo has been in the news lately after his rant on the handshake line. Some people were calling for the end of the handshake line after the brawl that broke out between Michigan's Juwan Howard and Wisconsin's coaching staff. Izzo vehemently called that notion ridiculous.
