The Michigan Wolverines received the number two seed in the College Football Playoffs and will take on the Georgia Bulldogs in the Orange Bowl.

Michigan was able to secure a spot in the College Football Playoffs with big wins over Ohio State and Iowa in the Big Ten Championship. Michigan's win against Ohio State was the biggest win in recent program history and is the reason why they are in the College Football Playoff.

Unfortunately for Michigan, they arguably should have been the number one seed as they have beat some worthy opponents all season long. It is interesting why the committee decided to give Alabama the number one seed, but it could be because they didn't want to see Alabama and Georgia face off in the semi-finals as they possibly want two SEC teams in the National Championship. This isn't great for Michigan as they're going to have to take on arguably the best team in the country. Georgia has been the best team in the country for almost every week besides the final week of the season after their loss to Alabama.

This is going to be an extremely tough game for the Wolverines, but they have shown throughout the season that they can compete with the best of them and that's exactly what they're going to show this Georgia team.

Let's take a look at four bold predictions for Michigan as they take on another storied college program in the Orange Bowl.

Michigan Orange Bowl Predictions

4. The offense has to play the best it has all season

Georgia has shown all season long that they have the best defense that college football has seen in a very long time. There is a reason why most of their defensive line is going to be high draft picks in the NFL draft.

If Michigan wants any chance to win this game, they're going to need their offense to play better than they ever have. Michigan has played some tough defense this year as Ohio State, Penn State, and others in the Big Ten always offer an elite defense. They still haven't gone up against anybody who can do what Georgia has done on the defensive side of the ball, but in their defense, nobody else in the country can do what they can do.

It's going to be a tough game for Michigan to put points on the board but if the last two weeks for the Wolverines have shown anything, it's that they could put up 40-plus points against some of the best teams in the country. If they want a chance to win, they're going to need to do the exact same thing.

3. The defense will play amazing

The defense has played great all season long and that is going to continue against Georgia. Georgia does have a good offense, but Michigan has gone up against great offenses. Ohio State arguably has the best wide receiver core in all of college football and maybe even in the past few seasons. They were still able to get the number of stops that they needed to win the game against OSU. They're going to need to do the same thing against Georgia and hope that they can keep them to under 25 points and walk away with a victory.

Michigan is known for how good they can play defense and that's exactly what they're going to need to do. If they do not get stops against this Georgia offense, there is no chance that Michigan is going to win this game. They cannot allow a shootout type of game, whoever can end up getting the most stops, is going to win.

2. They have to run some trick plays to get things going

It might sound crazy but when you're going up against the best defense in college football, your offense is either going to have to click on all cylinders, or you're going to have to pull some plays out that you haven't used all season long.

This game could come down to a trick play whether it be a fake punt, flea-flicker, or something that throws the Georgia defense off. There is a reason why people regard them as the best defensive team in the past decade and if you're going to want to beat them, Michigan needs to do something special against them.

1. Michigan got the short end of the stick and loses by a field goal

It's unfortunate that Michigan didn't get the number one seed as Cincinnati is undoubtedly not better than Georgia. If Michigan did get the game against Cincinnati, there is a good chance that they walk away with a victory and have a chance to win a National Championship.

That isn't the case for the Wolverines and unfortunately, they are going to come away with a tight loss as they are going to lose on a last-minute field goal.
