Mike Conley signed the biggest contract in NBA history on Thursday, which is a five-year, $139 million dollar deal with the Memphis Grizzlies, the team he's played with his entire career.

Because of this contract, people could possibly watch him play more than ever, but he believes that his contract will not affect his play:

“It's amazing the opportunity I've been given. As far as the pressure, it's hard to really gauge that because I put pressure on myself to perform regardless. The amount of money I make is not going to change how I approach the game. I'm going to continue to be aggressive and do a lot better than I did last season and the season before.”

Conley also is ready to take all the criticism that comes with a contract that large:

“I'll take the heat right now. Eventually, it will all die down. Two years from now everybody else will be making so much more.”

Conley has been overshadowed for most of his career due to the elite point guard talent in the West. However, he has been extremely solid over his career, averaging 13.6 points, 2.9 rebounds, 5.6 assists and 1.5 steals per game. Even though he has been overlooked, the people of Memphis are happy to have him on their team, according to Grizzlies general manager Chris Wallace:

“He's our All-Star. He's an elite point guard in this league. It's unanimous around the league that he's one of the top-tier players at his position, a very crucial position.”

The Grizzlies have had an eventful off-season, signing Conley to an extension, acquiringChandler Parsons and James Ennis, drafting Wade Baldwin IV, and trading for Deyonta Davis and Troy Daniels. Hopefully for Memphis they can avoid the injury bug next season and make a run through the playoffs.
