Mike Evans, who stands at 6-foot-5, to no one's surprise, played basketball before he became a standout football player at Texas A&M. While the Tampa Bay Buccaneers prepare to take on the Los Angeles Rams on Monday Night Football, Evans revealed what led him to choose football over basketball.

“It was like a hunch, or just a – I don’t know, like God whispering in my ear like, ‘Yo, [you’re] doing this for a reason,” Evans said, via the Truss Levelz podcast with Mark Ingram and Cameron Jordan. “I went on an unofficial visit to Texas A&M which is 3 hours from where I’m from. …I wasn’t committed to basketball or football and they [the football team] were getting ready for the Cotton Bowl and I was just at the facility watching practice saying man I could come here and play early, I’m already better than these guys.”

Evans has cemented himself as the best wide receiver in franchise history, logging six consecutive 1,000-yard seasons to begin his career. Despite his lower numbers this season, Evans is still a reliable option for Tom Brady.

Even though he's excelling in the NFL, Evans had more offers for basketball in college, with him playing just one year of football in high school.

“I played (football) when I was young, I always loved football. Football was actually my first love, and then I played basketball and I was like, ‘Man, this is a way better sport, I love this way more.’…and I loved football I just didn’t want to play it for my school at the time…Junior year spring [basketball], after the season was over I was like going into senior year, why not, let me just do all the sports.”

Despite his love for basketball, football was the first sport Evans grew to love. However, with his size, basketball became a sport he became talented in until he realized he could play both to finish his high school career.

Of course, Mike Evans would proceed to attend Texas A&M in college and was a first-round pick by the Buccaneers. It's safe to say that Evans made the right choice as he continues to prove he's one of the premier wideouts in the league.
