Heavyweight champion Mike Tyson said Tuesday he thinks Tyson Fury will simply be too evasive for Anthony Joshua in the undisputed heavyweight title fight between the two Englishmen.

Fury and Joshua agreed to a two-fight deal earlier this month. Tyson spoke about the matchup during an IG Live interview with Haute Living, saying Fury has proven himself quite slippery in recent bouts. “Iron Mike” specifically cited the second fight with Deontay Wilder, a fight Fury won handily by TKO last year:

“I f***ing love Anthony Joshua, but I think Tyson [Fury] is too elusive. He's not going to be able to hit him,” Tyson said, via Jack Rathborn of Independent UK.

“I like Joshua a lot, and maybe he punches harder than Wilder, but he doesn't punch faster than Wilder.

“That's just what I see. If Tyson Fury can get away from Wilder's fast punches, Joshua might be in trouble.”

There were some strange circumstances in that second Fury-Wilder bout, notably Wilder wearing a weighty outfit during his walk to that outfit. Wilder claimed that had an impact on his performance.

That said, the “Gypsy King” made a concerted effort to put on added weight in the rematch. He was able to slide out of Wilder's range and lean on him during tie-ups.

Tyson believes you need to be fast to hit Fury. He doubts Joshua will be as fast as Wilder. But does A.J. have something else in store?

Anthony Joshua is fresh off a massive knockout of Kubrat Pulev in December. He certainly has the punching power. Maybe he can catch Fury with a shot.

Then again, that is exactly what Wilder hoped to do in both Fury fights. It didn't pan out that well, especially the second time around.

The location for Fury-Joshua has yet to be finalized, but it will undoubtedly be one of the most highly-anticipated bouts in recent memory.
