Adrian Peterson revived his career during the 2018 NFL season with the Washington Redskins. After waiting for a contract throughout the entire offseason, the Redskins decided to give him a chance when rookie running back Derrius Guice went down with a torn ACL. Now, his value is up again, and the Minnesota Vikings should consider reuniting with him when free agency opens up.

Why should the Vikings try to repair the relationship with Peterson? Quite simply, he would bring the necessary stability for their backfield and would be an ideal mentor for talented back Dalvin Cook.

During the 2018 season with the Redskins, Peterson ended up carrying the football 251 times for 1,042 yards and seven touchdowns. He also caught 20 passes for 208 yards and a touchdown.

Those numbers show that Peterson is still more than capable of making a major impact for any team that decides to give him a contract this offseason.

Minnesota was expecting Cook to have a massive season after recovering fully from a torn ACL that he suffered early last year. Instead, they saw him struggle all year with injuries and inconsistency. He rushed for 615 yards and two touchdowns on 133 carries.

Latavius Murray was the Vikings' backup running back and he played a big role all year long. He has talked about wanting to return to Minnesota in 2019, but his price may be out of range for the franchise.

Even with Murray being a valuable running back to have on the roster, Peterson could offer the Vikings a lot more than him. He could offer excitement, leadership, and would be able to take Cook under his wing and show him the path to success. Peterson would likely be willing to split touches with Cook if the Vikings were able to repair the relationship between them.

While there is a very good chance that the two sides won't consider a reunion, it would make perfect sense.

Returning to Minnesota would add to Peterson's legacy. He was the face of their franchise for years and is still well loved in the city. The Vikings, on the other hand, would bring a lot of fan excitement back to the stadium and would be getting a player who could produce on the field and help them grow their young talent.

The chances of this happening may be slim, but crazier things have happened in the past.
