Major League Baseball has announced the format for the 2020 postseason, and it is … unique.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, both the American League and National League will compete in bubbles beginning with the Division Series. The AL will play in Los Angeles and San Diego, while the NL will play in a bubble in Arlington and Houston after the Wild Card Series.

The 2020 MLB Playoffs will begin with the AL Wild Card Series on Tuesday, Sept. 29, with the World Series scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 20:

The World Series will be held at Globe Life Park in Arlington, home of the Texas Rangers. As MLB's official announcement notes, it will be the “first neutral site Fall Classic in modern history.” Game 7 of the World Series would be played on Oct. 28.

Furthermore, all of the best-of-three Wild Card Series will be held at the home parks of the league's top four seeds. MLB is expanding the playoff field to 16 teams in 2020, in part to compensate for the pandemic-shortened 60-game MLB regular season. The remaining teams will then head to their respective bubbles after the Wild Card Series.

Petco Park, home of the San Diego Padres, will host the ALDS matchup between the winner of the 1 vs. 8 and 4 vs. 5 Wild Card Series. Dodger Stadium will host the winners of the 2 vs. 7 and 3 vs. 6 matchups. Both series are scheduled to run from Oct. 5-9.

In the National League, the winners of the 1 vs. 8 and 4 vs. 5 Wild Card Series will square off in Arlington, while the league's other Wild Card winners will play in the Houston Astros' Minute Maid Park. Those games are slated for Oct. 6-10.

The ALCS will be played at Petco Park from Oct. 11-17. The NLCS will be played at Globe Life Field from Oct. 12-18.

One particularly noteworthy detail: there will be no days off from the Wild Card Series through the Championship Series.
