The Miami Marlins' 2020 MLB campaign has been put on hold after 19 of their players, coaches and staff tested positive for COVID-19.

The Marlins are currently in quarantine and likely won't be playing again for at least another week:

The Marlins are coming off a three-game series against the Philadelphia Phillies and has remained in Philadelphia.

On Tuesday morning, Jeff Passan of ESPN reported that it felt “likely” that an infected Marlins player participated in the team's game against the Phillies on Sunday.

Miami was supposed to have its home opener against the Baltimore Orioles on Monday night, but the contest was postponed.

Because the Phillies just came into contact with the Marlins, the club postponed its games against the New York Yankees on Monday and Tuesday because some Philadelphia players were still awaiting coronavirus test results. There have been no positive tests so far.

MLB managers have expressed concern over the season as a whole, including Dave Martinez of the Washington Nationals:

“I’m going to be honest with you: I’m scared,” said Martinez, via Max Marcovitch and Dave Hyde of The South Florida Sun Sentinel. “My level of concern went from about an eight to a 12. I mean, this thing really hits home now. I got guys in our clubhouse that are really concerned, as well.”

Nationals players reportedly voted against going to Miami to face the Marlins this weekend.

The MLB season kicked off on July 23 after a lengthy delay due to the coronavirus pandemic. However, the league has taken the least preventative measures out of the major sports, with the NBA opting to use a bubble system and the NHL utilizing hub cities for their respective returns.
