The Miami Marlins host the Los Angeles Angels in an interleague matchup! It's time to continue our MLB odds series with an Angels-Marlins prediction and pick.

The Marlins took Game 1 after another magical performance from Sandy Alcantara. The early NL CY Young favorite is dominating this season and once again proved why he is on pace to take home the hardware. Alcantara is (9-3) with a 1.82 ERA and pitched eight scoreless innings last night. The Angels finished with just two hits as they look to bounce back in a big way. The Angels are (37-45) on the year while the Marlins aren't much better at (39-40). Both sides are fourth in their respective divisions.

Why The Angels Could Cover The Spread

On the mound for the Halos tonight is superstar Shohei Ohtani. The right-hander is (7-4) on the year with a 2.68 ERA in 74 innings pitched. He's already over 100 strikeouts on the season which is remarkable considering the Angels are slowly putting him out there. Yet, the ace still finds a way to carve up his opponents on a given basis. He last pitched against the Chicago White Sox where he struck out 11 batters in 5.2 innings. He struck out 13 in eight innings the outing prior against the Kansas City Royals.

If Ohtani is on his game then the Angels should cover this spread. However, their offense needs to step up. Mike Trout was one of the two who successfully got a hit against Alcantara last night. Now, Trout will try and lead the Angels past the Marlins to even the series and avoid the two-game sweep. Jared Walsh, Taylor Ward, and Brandon Marsh are all playing well this season and need to be a big part of this game today against a southpaw.

Why The Marlins Could Cover The Spread

RECOMMENDED (Article Continues Below)

Toeing the slab for the Marlins tonight is lefty Trevor Rogers. Rogers is off to a slow start this year after pitching very well last year. He has a record of (4-6) with only a 5.56 ERA in 68 innings. He pitched well against the Washington Nationals over the weekend allowing just one run and two hits. However, he allowed a combined 12 runs over his previous four outings which has really made it difficult for him. If Rogers is able to find his groove against a struggling Angels team, then they will have a shot at covering this spread.

The Marlins don't hit for average very well. But, they do display some heavy power hitters like Jorge Soler, Jesus Aguilar, and Jesus Sanchez. With all that said, Jazz Chisholm Jr. actually leads the team with 14 home runs even though he is 184 pounds. He's currently on the 10-day IL with discomfort in his back. Once he returns, this Marlins team could be over .500, and ready to make a serious push for the postseason.

Final Angels-Marlins Prediction & Pick

Both teams really need this win. Because Ohtani is on the bump for the Halos I really like them to cover this spread. He's been electric in his last two starts and the Marlins are missing their best hitter. Similar to last night's game, take the better starter.

Final Angels-Marlins Prediction & Pick: Angels -1.5 (+106)
