The Los Angeles Angels and the Texas Rangers will continue their four-game series on Wednesday night. It's time to continue our MLB odds series and make an Angels-Rangers prediction and pick.

The Angels don't have much hope of making the postseason. But if they want to keep their slim playoff hopes alive, they need to win games like this one. Los Angeles is currently 12 games back of first place in the division, so the club can't afford any more losses to bad teams like the Rangers. Texas is mainly interested in getting its young players time on the field at this point. They'll take a win if it comes, but the Rangers know they aren't competitive at this point in the season.

Here's how the bookmakers have set the lines for Wednesday night's game.

Why The Angels Could Win

Despite their lack of playoff potential, the Angels are still one of the most exciting teams in MLB to watch. That is mainly due to superstar Shohei Ohtani, who will make the start in this one.

Ohtani has been nothing short of spectacular on the season. Even if Ohtani wasn't one of the best hitters in baseball, he would provide value as one of the best pitchers in the league. He has earned a 3.04 ERA and a 1.13 WHIP, numbers that border on elite. Ohtani should be able to improve on those stats, as he's facing one of the worst starting lineups in all of baseball.

The Rangers have struggled at the plate all year, and that won't change on Wednesday. They are either the worst in the league or the second-worst in batting average, OBP, OPS, and slugging percentage. It's safe to say they are the worst offense in baseball, and they just traded away their best player in Joey Gallo. Ohtani will have no trouble putting this lineup down.

Fortunately for Los Angeles, they don't have the same lineup problems as Texas. The Angels are one of the best offenses in the league, spearheaded by Ohtani's greatness at the plate. They've gone a little cold lately, but they should be able to get hot again against Rangers starter Kolby Allard.

Allard has been utilized as a starter and a reliever, but neither role seems to agree with him. His ERA on the season is 5.23, but that gets much worse in Allard's last seven starts. The righty owns a 7.82 ERA over those appearances. The Angels should be able to hit him easily.

Why The Rangers Could Win

The Rangers struggle against just about every pitcher, but for some reason they've hit fairly well against Ohtani. Ohtani has made two starts against them this season, giving up a combined four runs over nine innings. The two-way star also seems to have a hard time playing on the road. His ERA at home is 1.79, but that jumps to 5.16 whenever he pitches on the road. It's unlikely the Rangers hit the righty well again, but there's at least some hope that that happens based off their past performance and Ohtani's struggles away from Angel Stadium.

Texas is also a much better offense at home. The Rangers' lineup hits for a .218 batting average on the road, but that rises up to .232 when they play in Globe Life Park. All of their other major offensive stats follow suit and skyrocket.

Allard's stats are not much to write home about, but he does have a couple of encouraging numbers going his way. His opponent's batting average plummets when pitching at home, dropping all the way from .284 to .220. The Angels are also worse against righties, earning a worse batting average, OBP, and OPS whenever they play a right-handed pitcher as opposed to a lefty.

Final Angels-Rangers Prediction & Pick

The Angels are essentially a lock to win this game, but the bookmakers know that. The odds aren't great for a moneyline bet, but luckily the over is also a good place to put down money. The Angels have the potential to break it on their own, and the Rangers should be able to contribute a couple of runs over the course of the game. Lock in the over and don't look back.

FINAL PICK: Over 8 runs (-116)
