The Los Angeles Angels will continue their series against the New York Yankees on Thursday night for Game 2 of the double-header. It's time to continue our MLB odds series and make an Angels-Yankees prediction and pick.

This is one of the most exciting matchups in all of baseball. The Angels have been surprisingly good this year, earning a 27-23 record behind one of the best offensive units in all of baseball. The Yankees have been similarly successful, as they currently own one of the MLB's best records with a 34-15 mark. Both teams will be looking to take home the second leg of a double-header, so this should be a fun matchup. Let's get into the pick.

Why The Angels Could Cover The Spread

Los Angeles has relied on their offense to win games this year, and that won't change in this contest. The Angels rank inside the top 10 in the MLB in almost every single major batting stat, including batting average, slugging percentage, OBP, and OPS. It helps that several hitters in the Los Angeles lineup have a positive history against Yankees starter Jameson Taillon. Four Angels hitters have a career batting average of .250 or higher against the righty.

While Angels starter Reid Detmers doesn't inspire much confidence, he has a couple of advantages in this matchup. The Yankees are a significantly worse offense when they face a left-handed pitcher, as they see a drop in nearly every single important offensive statistic. New York has also been struggling at the plate recently. The Yankees have been held to two runs or less in four of their last six contests. Despite his mediocre statistics, there is a chance that Detmers pitches well in this game.

Why The Yankees Could Cover The Spread

Despite the advantages that Detmers has, it's likely that the Yankees are able to succeed offensively. They have even better overall offensive stats than the Angels do, and they're facing a pitcher who has had very little success this season. Over the course of the season, Detmers has put together a 4.65 ERA while earning himself two losses, including a game in which he pitched three innings and gave up five runs. The lefty is yet to face an offense of New York's caliber, so it's fair to expect a solid offensive day from the Yankees here.

The Yankees don't have to worry about their pitching in this contest. Jameson Taillon has been surprisingly good this season, earning a 2.49 ERA and a 1.01 WHIP on the season. His last two games both yielded elite pitching performances, as he held the Chicago White Sox to one run over seven innings and shut out the Tampa Bay Rays over eight innings. It's entirely possible that Taillon continues his successful run in this matchup.

Final Angels-Yankees Prediction & Pick

This game should be a close one, but the odds are set in a strange way. The Angels seem like a decent pick at +1.5, but their status as favorites makes it hard to pick them. Instead, taking the Yankees to win by a couple of runs at +130. New York is the right pick here, solely because of the odds.

Final Angels-Yankees Prediction & Pick: New York Yankees -1.5 (+125)
