Why The Astros Can Cover The Spread/Win

The Houston Astros have been doing pretty well again this year as they sit on top of the AL West with a 55-28 record. The Mariners are in second, but 13.0 games back from the Astros. The veteran southpaw pitcher, Framber Valdez, will be making his 17th start of the season on the mound today. He's showing a spectacular 2.67 ERA and a 1.13 WHIP with an 8-3 record so far. He had a complete game against the A's earlier in the season but is 1-2 against them throughout his career. The Astros are scoring an average of 4.49 runs per game, mainly because of Alex Bregman, who has been a key part of the Astros organization this year. He's recorded seven RBIs in his last nine games, which puts him at 42 RBIs on the year so far. The pitching staff is also showing a 3.02 team ERA, making them third-best in the league.

Why The Athletics Can Cover The Spread/Win

The Oakland Athletics have not been doing so well this season as they find themselves in last place in the AL West with a record of 28-57, almost the exact opposite of the Astros. They're 28.0 games back from first place, and have hit a point of “cut all losses, on to next year.” Left-hander Zach Logue will get the start for the A's tonight as he is showing a 2-4 record on the season with a 5.47 ERA and a 1.58 WHIP. Oakland's bullpen is subpar to say the least, showing a 4.29 average ERA and a 1.40 WHIP on the season. The A's don't really have many batting threats, but as a whole, they're averaging 3.17 runs, which puts them in dead last.

Final Astros-Athletics Prediction & Pick

The Astros have the best road win record in the league so far (28-16) and the A's arguably have the worst home record in the league (10-30). Unfortunately, the A's are the worst team in baseball right now so it's difficult to find any value in their odds. Even getting them at +1.5 isn't worth it because the Astros will still blow them out of the water. With that said, the Astros spread at -1.5 isn't very nice to us either. I'll be looking to either move the spread to -2.5 for the Astros or just simply take the over considering Houston can do that on their own. Now that I've talked myself into it, let's just take the over and see what happens. Let's make some money.

Final Astros-Athletics Prediction and Pick: Over 8.5 (-104)
