The Houston Astros look for the sweep on Wednesday night as they take on the Los Angeles Dodgers for the final game in a two-game set. It’s time to continue our MLB odds series and make a Astros-Dodgers prediction and pick.

Los Angeles currently stands at 64-44 and is 33-19 at home. If you put $100 on every single Dodgers game so far this season, you’d be down $903 on the moneyline.

Houston currently stands at 65-42 and is 31-22 on the road. If you put $100 on every single Astros game so far this season, you’d be up $738 on the moneyline.

Here’s how sportsbooks have set the Astros-Dodgers odds.

Why The Astros Could Win This Game

After shocking Walker Buehler and the Dodgers as underdogs in the first game of the series, the Astros have an even bigger hill to climb on Wednesday.

The bad news for the Astros is they have to face one of the best pitchers in the league. The good news is he hasn't looked as sharp of late.

In 19 starts this season, Max Scherzer has allowed more then two earned runs only four times. However, two of those times have occured in his last three starts.

Additionally, Scherzer's strikeouts have dropped. After K'ing up at least nine batters in eight of his first 12 starts, Scherzer has failed to reach that number in any of his last seven starts.

The Astros don't strike out often, and Scherzer is missing less barrels. It's unlikely Houston shells the ace, but they can do the same thing they did to Buehler: Run the pitch count up, get one or two earned runs across, and try to do additional damage to the weaker Dodgers bullpen in the final three innings of the game.

On the mound, Odorizzi has been consistently decent for the Astros. In 11 of his 14 appearances, he has given up three earned runs or less.

The righty is obviously not the lights-out pitcher Scherzer is, but he can hold his own. Odorizzi controls his walks (only 19 free passes in 61 innings) and limits the long ball (no homers allowed in six of his last eight starts).

The ideal scenario for the Astros is for Odorizzi to get through five innings relatively unscathed. If he can accomplish that and the lineup can run up Scherzer's pitch count, there's a good chance they pull off another major upset.

Why The Dodgers Could Win This Game

This will be Scherzer's debut as a Dodger.

It's still a little odd to see Scherzer in Dodger Blue, but the veteran righty should be fully acclimated on the bump in L.A. Scherzer pitched to a 2.76 ERA and amassed 147 strikeouts in 19 starts for the Washington Nationals this season.

The Dodgers new starter has not only been dominant this season, but he has been lights out at Dodger Stadium throughout his career.

“Brown Eye” has made five appearances at Dodger Stadium over the last five years, pitching 27.0 innings, striking out 38 batters, and allowing only four earned runs. Scherzer might have been calling Washington home at the time, but he certainly felt comfortable in Los Angeles.

This Astros lineup has the daunting task of facing Scherzer on Wednesday, and it'll be made even harder by the fact that they've never seen him. Only two Houston regulars have recorded a PA against Scherzer. The Astros' best hitters (Jose Altuve, Carlos Correa, Yuli Gurriel, Michael Brantley, and Yordan Alvarez) have zero experience seeing the righty. Expect Scherzer to have the major upper hand.

The Dodgers' bats are looking to heat up after an ice-cold night against Lance McCullers. Thankfully for Dodgers backers, they get a much more hittable pitcher in Jake Odorizzi.

While McCullers relies heavily on off-speed pitches (something the Dodgers have struggled with), Odorizzi is primarily a sinker baller. L.A.'s bats will match up much better with Odorizzi than McCullers and should scratch some runs across off the Astros starter.

Final Astros-Dodgers Prediction & Pick

The Dodgers are likely to win this game, but -207 is more juice than anyone should ever lay with an MLB game. The run line should be considered, but the best bet of this game is on a player prop. I understand Max Scherzer is one of the best strikeout pitchers in the league, but this Astros lineup simply doesn't strike out too much. Walker Buehler, another K master, struck out only five Astros on Tuesday. In fact, only one starter in the last 10 Houston games has managed to punch out eight Astros. I think Mad Max goes six or seven quality innings, but he'll have to work for them. Take the under on his strikeout prop at plus money.

FINAL ASTROS-DODGERS PREDICTION & PICK: MAX SCHERZER U 7.5 STRIKEOUTS (+110)
