The Toronto Blue Jays and New York Mets will open a three-game series at Citi Field on Friday night. It’s time to continue our MLB odds series and make a Blue Jays-Mets prediction and pick.

Toronto dropped its final two games in Buffalo and will be on the road before returning to the Rogers Centre to conclude the season. The Blue Jays will look to bounce back after getting shelled by the Boston Red Sox in their last series. New York enters this series with wins in three of its last four games, which is promising for a club that had been struggling over the past few weeks.

Here’s how sportsbooks have set the Blue Jays-Mets odds.

Toronto Blue Jays +1.5 (-195)

New York Mets -1.5 (+170)

Over 8.5 Runs (-120)

Under 8.5 Runs (+100)

Why The Blue Jays Could Cover The Spread

The Blue Jays are one of the youngest and most exciting teams in the majors this season. They are currently 48-44 and five games back of the second Wild Card spot in the American League. Toronto had won four straight games before the recent losses against the Red Sox. The offense has been rolling for the Blue Jays as they've scored at least four runs in each of their last six games and double digits in two games during the recent stretch. Their pitching has been the big issue all year long, and they just allowed 20 runs over their last two losses. Toronto's top-three offense will look to lead the way in this three-game series against the Mets.

Toronto will turn to left-hander Steven Matz in the series opener. The former Met has been serviceable for Toronto this season with a 8-4 record and 4.43 ERA through 16 starts. He has been pitching better of late and will be coming off one of his best starts of the season. The Blue Jays southpaw tossed five innings of shutout ball against the Texas Rangers on July 18. Matz will have a little boost of energy in his first start against his former club. The former Mets starter has a career 3.81 ERA at Citi Field.

Why The Mets Could Cover The Spread

The New York Mets are 50-43 on the season, thanks to their impressive 28-14 record at Citi Field. The Mets currently have a four-game lead over the Philadelphia Phillies and Atlanta Braves in the competitive NL East. New York has found a ton of success this season behind a top-three pitching staff that has allowed just 2.48 runs per game at home. The offense hasn't done this club many favors, but the stellar starting rotation has carried them in a big way. The Mets' struggling lineup has actually shown signs of life lately with at least seven runs in four of their last five games to date, though.

New York will hand the ball to right-hander Tylor Megill for the series opener. Megill has been impressive with a 2.63 ERA and 28 strikeouts over his first five starts of the season. The 25-year-old starter has allowed one earned run or fewer in each of his last three starts coming in. He is coming off a solid outing as he tossed six innings of shutout ball against the Pittsburgh Pirates in his last start. Megill has a 2.77 ERA over 13 innings and three starts at Citi Field.

Final Blue Jays-Mets Prediction & Pick

Although the Mets have been dominant at home this season, I expect the Toronto Blue Jays to come in and steal the opener. I fully expect Steven Matz to come into this start with a chip on his shoulder, which will serve him well as he certainly has experience pitching in this ballpark. He has been pitching well of late, and this Mets lineup doesn't pose much of a threat to the southpaw. Toronto's offense has continued its dominance and should be able to put a few runs on the board against the young Mets starter. Megill has been impressive this season, but hasn't seen many teams like the Blue Jays yet.

FINAL PICK: Toronto Blue Jays ML (+105)
