The San Francisco Giants get set to host the Chicago Cubs for the first of a four-game set on Thursday night. It’s time to continue our MLB odds series and make a Cubs-Giants prediction and pick.

The Cubs defeated the Padres in their last series and the Giants split their most recent series with the Angels. This game should be full of fireworks as these teams are separated by just two games in the standings. Both teams are scorching hot coming in and it'll be interesting to see who prevails in a four-game heavyweight series.

Here’s how sportsbooks have set the opening Cubs-Giants odds.

MLB Odds: Cubs-Giants Odds

Chicago Cubs +1.5 (-180)

San Francisco Giants -1.5 (+160)

Over 8 Runs (-120)

Under 8 Runs (+100)

Why The Cubs Could Cover The Spread

The National League West is arguably the best division in baseball this season. I make that point because it's important to note that the Chicago Cubs are a perfect 6-0 against the NL West. They've swept both the Dodgers and the Padres in three-game sets. The Cubs are scorching hot and now get a chance to sweep another NL West club in the Giants. Chicago is in first place in the NL Central thanks to a 19-8 month of May. They have won nine of their last 10 games to date and enter with the 11th-most runs scored in the Major's.

The Cubs will open the series with right-hander Zach Davies. Davies is 2-2 with a 4.32 ERA through 11 starts this season. The Cubs starter has really picked it up in the month of May after an awful April that saw his ERA spike all the way up to 9.47. The righty had a 1.79 ERA through six starts during the month of May, which is extremely promising heading into this start. Chicago went 5-1 in those six May starts and the Cubs are hoping that success carries over into June and beyond.

Why The Giants Could Cover The Spread

The San Francisco Giants have been one of the biggest surprises in baseball this season as they currently sit in first place in the loaded National League West. In a division that features the defending champion Los Angeles Dodgers and the juggernaut San Diego Padres, it's this Giants club full of unknowns that is currently 34-21 on the season. San Francisco brings a balanced attack with the third-most homers and the third-fewest runs per game allowed in the league. They have been playing very well lately with wins in six of their last eight games to date.

San Francisco will hand the ball to right-hander Anthony DeSclafani for the series opener. DeSclafani had a wonderful start to the season before regressing a bit of late. His 5.68 ERA in May was a bit inflated by one bad start against the Dodgers. The Giants right-hander allowed 10 earned runs over 2.20 innings of work in that start. He is currently 4-2 with a 3.56 ERA through the first two months of the season. DeSclafani has pitched very well at night with an ERA of 2.06.

Final Cubs-Giants Prediction & Pick

In a game that could truly go either way, I am going to side with the San Francisco Giants to come away victorious. For starters, the Giants have been very good at home with a 15-8 record to start the season. Although Zach Davies has turned it on lately, I like DeSclafani's chances to win a night game at Oracle Park. The Giants are 23-13 in games against right-handed pitchers and I'm confident that they will start the series on a high note.

FINAL PICK: San Francisco Giants ML (-125)
