Will the Chicago Cubs upset the Chicago White Sox and win the series with a victory on Sunday? Or will the White Sox show the Cubs why the Sox are one of the World Series favorites in 2021? It’s time to continue our MLB odds series and make a Cubs-White Sox prediction and pick.

After a comeback victory in Friday's game that resulted in a football-score win for the White Sox (17-13!), the Cubs bounced back on Saturday for a 7-0 win. The Cubs and White Sox are clearly heading in opposite directions as this season winds down, but the Crosstown Classic always is a good time in The Windy City, so this should be a compelling contest as one team looks to claim the series victory.

Here’s how the bookmakers have set the lines for Sunday's game.

Why The Cubs Could Cover The Spread

Kyle Hendricks has had a tough August (6.26 ERA in four starts), but his start earlier this month against these same White Sox was actually one of his better outings since the All-Star break. On Aug. 6, Hendricks tossed 6.0 innings, allowing seven hits and two runs, while adding seven strikeouts. This was a very impressive appearance for Hendricks, whose efforts were wasted as the Cubs went on to lose the game, 8-6. Hendricks also won eight consecutive decisions between May and June, which proves that he is capable of pitching deep into games, keeping runs off the board and giving the Cubs a great chance to win. It must be mentioned that those wins were before the Cubs traded their best players at the trade deadline, but even since then, the Cubs are 2-2 in Hendricks' starts. In this rubber match of the series, the Cubs will be looking to play spoiler to a White Sox team that has their eyes set on the World Series. Hendricks is a good bet to help the Cubs play that role successfully.

Why The White Sox Could Cover The Spread

In all five of his starts in August, Dylan Cease has pitched at least 5.0 innings, never allowing more than three earned runs. In his last start, he allowed one run and four hits across 7.0 innings, earning the win in Toronto. Earlier this month against the Cubs, Cease earned the win while striking out 10 Cubs batters. He pitched 5.0 innings and allowed three earned runs. Cease has also struck out at least five batters in all of his appearances this month and should have no problem exceeding that number against a Cubs lineup lacking star talent This is a perfect matchup for Cease to pitch six or seven shutout frames, all while tacking on an additional seven to nine strikeouts. I like Cease to throw a gem today, giving the Sox the series victory.

Final Cubs-White Sox Prediction & Pick

As just mentioned, Dylan Cease throws a gem, which will back the White Sox in a 7-2 victory. Kyle Hendricks allows at least one home run, the White Sox score in the first inning, and they will not look back. Chicago is now a White Sox town, and the South Side team will assert its dominance closing out the series with a huge win.

FINAL PICK: White Sox – 1 1/2 (-120)
