Under 7.5 Runs (-110)

Why The Dodgers Could Win This Game

With the Dodgers struggling mightily against their rival of late, they send their best available arm to the mound in Walker Buehler.

Buehler has been electric all season, pitching to a 10-1 record and a 2.31 ERA. More importantly, he has put up excellent numbers against the Giants.

The young righty has already faced the Giants four times this year. In 27 innings against San Francisco, Buehler has racked up 24 strikeouts and given up three earned runs.

The heart of the Giants' order has struggled to touch Buehler. Alex Dickerson, Buster Posey, and Wilmer Flores are a combined 5-for-38 against him. Add in the fact that Buehler has gone no less than six innings against the Giants all year, and it's a good shot that the Dodgers can avoid going to a bullpen that has been shaky in close games of late.

At the plate, Los Angeles gets a crack at Anthony DeSclafani. The righty has been excellent for the Giants all year, but he has been crushed by L.A. Like Buehler, he has made four starts against this opponent. Unlike Buehler, he has been touched up in every game.

In 18 1/3 innings against Los Angeles this year, DeSclafani has given up 18 earned runs. He has given up at least two earned runs in every outing and never pitched more than six innings in these outings.

There's a case to be made that the Giants have an advantage in the strength of their batting order at the moment, but Buehler's history of dominance and DeSclafani's struggles should neutralize any advantage the Giants have.

Why The Giants Could Win This Game

The Giants have dominated the Dodgers of late, winning four of their last five meetings to extend their lead in the NL West. What's most interesting about the Giants' wins is they haven't needed to get to the Dodgers' starting pitching to do it.

In their four recent wins, San Francisco has only scored six earned runs against L.A. starters. The other 12 runs have come off a Dodgers bullpen that has been incapable of closing games against the Giants.

The blueprint for beating Buehler has already been laid out for the Giants: Get him out of the game as soon as possible. In their first win against him, San Francisco drew three walks (the second-most Buehler has given up all year) and ran up his pitch count so that Buehler could only complete six innings. The Giants proceeded to score five runs off the bullpen to win the game.

As long as DeSclafani pitches relatively well, the Giants will be in this one until the very last pitch.

DeSclafani's terrible numbers against the Dodgers are amplified by his worst start of the year in which he gave up 10 earned in just 2 2/3 innings. In the entire season, DeSclafani has one game in which he has allowed more than three earned runs, and that was it.

The odds that one of the Giants' most consistent starters is rocked again by a Dodgers lineup that is shaken by injuries is very low. Expect this DeSclafani start to be much more similar to his other three against Los Angeles: No more than three earned runs allowed and an average of 5 1/3 innings completed.

Final Dodgers-Giants Prediction & Pick

It's tough to bet on the Dodgers at the moment because of how shoddy their bats have looked against Giants pitching. However, with Buehler on the mound, L.A. only needs two or three runs to win this thing, which they're more than capable of. Back Walker Buehler to be dominant against the Giants once again, and take the Dodgers ML at only -124, a rarity this season.
