The San Francisco Giants take on the Los Angeles Dodgers. Check out our MLB odds series for our Giants Dodgers prediction and pick.

Logan Webb has a 2.83 ERA. On June 9, that ERA was 3.77. Webb has steadily chipped away and lowered his ERA by nearly a whole run. In his last seven starts, from June 14 through July 17, Webb has pitched 46 innings and allowed a total of seven earned runs. That’s an ERA of under 1.50. That’s the elite-level pitching Webb did not give the Giants in April and May. Webb has proven he can shut down the Dodgers in big games. He did this in the stretch run of the 2021 regular season and in the 2021 National League Division Series against the Dodgers. He certainly is worthy of trust in a big-moment situation such as this one.

Tyler Anderson has a 2.96 ERA. If it wasn’t for Tony Gonsolin, Anderson would be the unsung hero of the Dodger rotation this season. It is worth emphasizing how vital Anderson has been to the Dodgers’ success this season, given the injuries to Clayton Kershaw and Walker Buehler, not to mention a large number of relievers. If Anderson hadn’t stepped up the way he has, the Dodger pitching staff would be a lot more vulnerable. Anderson has made 17 starts this season. He has allowed more than four runs in only one. He has allowed two runs or fewer in 12 of those starts. That’s a lot of heavy lifting which – combined with Gonsolin – has given Los Angeles a large batch of high-quality starts from unexpected sources. In his last three starts, Anderson has pitched 19 1/3 innings and allowed only four runs.

Why The Giants Could Cover the Spread

The Giants have Logan Webb on the mound. That is a big reason to trust them here. While Dodger-Giant series are always intense, and Los Angeles relishes these games as much as San Francisco does, it has to be said that the Giants need this game and series more than the Dodgers. Los Angeles is blowing away the National League West. The Giants are part of a fierce three-team battle for the third and final National League wild card berth with the St. Louis Cardinals and the Philadelphia Phillies. The urgency of the moment is a powerful intangible element in a ballgame, and the Giants will have it on their side.

Why The Dodgers Could Cover the Spread

The Dodgers did not play this past Sunday. They had a rare Sunday off. This means they had four full days off before returning to action on Thursday. They have been spending time at home the past seven days, given that their last pre-All-Star break series was against the Los Angeles Angels. Give a great team an ample amount of time to recharge, and it should come out guns blazing. The Dodgers did score nine runs on Thursday, a sign that their offense remains potent and formidable. Tyler Anderson also deserves complete trust, given everything we have seen from him this year.

Final Giants-Dodgers Prediction & Pick

The Giants badly need this game, but the Dodgers landed a gut punch Thursday night with their four-run eighth-inning comeback. Logan Webb is the more proven pitcher, but Tyler Anderson is having a great year. This game is simply hard to pin down. Stay away from it, then. If you insist on a pick, go with the desperate Giants.

Final Giants-Dodgers Prediction & Pick: Giants +1.5
