Why The Giants Could Cover The Spread
The San Francisco Giants have been one of the most surprising storylines across Major League Baseball this season. The Giants have a lineup full of veteran bats that are finally producing for them in 2021. Veteran third-baseman Evan Longoria has been hitting the cover off of the ball lately with a .348 batting average over his last seven games played. He has seven homers and 25 RBI on the season. San Francisco is scoring 4.81 runs per game on the year, which is good for ninth in the league. They are allowing the fifth-fewest runs per game at 3.60 as well.
They will turn to their ace Kevin Gausman with hopes of salvaging the series. Gausman has been phenomenal for the Giants this season and is an early contender for the NL Cy Young award. The hard throwing right-hander is currently 5-0 with a staggering 1.53 ERA. He has allowed just one earned run over his last three starts and has at least eight strikeouts in all three. In two starts against the Dodgers last season, Gausman went 0-1 and allowed five earned runs over 15 innings of work.

The Los Angeles Dodgers have been playing well this season and seem to getting back on a roll after a major slump at the beginning of May. The defending champs are finding success thanks in large part to the production of right fielder Mookie Betts. The superstar outfielder is hitting the cover off of the ball and wreaking havoc on the base paths as well. He's been struggling over his last 15 games and once he returns to normal form, watch out for this Dodgers club. Los Angeles is averaging 5.17 runs per game, which is good for second in all of baseball. They are averaging 3.85 runs per game behind one of the best starting rotations.
Clayton Kershaw hasn't skipped a beat as he is still one of the best starters in the Major's. The southpaw is currently 7-3 with a 2.94 ERA to start the season. He is certainly in the Cy Young conversation once again and has been dominant over his last two starts coming in. Kershaw is coming off of a solid 7.20 inning performance against the Astros in his last start. The lefty allowed just one earned run and struck out six batters in route to securing the victory.

Kevin Gausman has been one of the best pitchers in the Major's this season and hasn't shown any signs of slowing down lately. He is virtually un-hittable with his high velocity and devastating breaking stuff. The Giants offense has looked like one of the best in the league and they match up very well against the Dodgers coming into this game. San Francisco has a ton of veterans that know the importance of these divisional series early in the season. The Giants will find a way to keep this game close and possibly come away with the victory to salvage the series.
