The San Diego Padres host the San Francisco Giants for the 2nd of a 4-game series! It's time to continue our MLB odds series with a Giants-Padres prediction and pick.

“LFGSD.” – Jorge Alfaro. The San Diego Padres won last night's ballgame by the score of 2-1 thanks to Alfaro's walk-off single in the bottom of the 10th inning. That was Alfaro's third walk-off hit this season and he's quickly becoming a fan favorite in America's finest city. Joe Musgrove and Logan Webb threw gems last night in the low-scoring affair. Tonight could be a different story as two southpaws face off in this NL West rivalry.

Why The Giants Could Cover The Spread

Reliever Sam Long will get the start tonight as the Giants will go with a bullpen day in this one. He's pitching well this season as he has a 1.78 ERA and 19 K's in just 30 innings this year. The Giants will need him to hold the Padres scoreless so that the rest of the bullpen can come in strong. The good news for Long is that the Padres are not hitting southpaws well at all this season.

On the offensive side, the Giants have a lot of work to do. They rely on their starters similar to the Padres and that is an issue. There isn't anyone eye-opening in the lineup besides Joc Peterson and Mike Yastrzemski. Luis Gonzales is the only hitter batting over .300 right now while everyone else is in the .220-range. The Giants must find a well to attack the Padres starter and force him out of the game early. The bullpen for the Padres has struggled at times this season holding onto leads.

Why The Padres Could Cover The Spread

On the bump for the Padres is lefty Blake Snell. Snell is struggling big time right now as he is having major location issues. He struck out 12 against the Los Angeles Dodgers in his last stint but has given up more than four runs in three of his last five starts. He's walking at least three batters a game and the team has lost his last 10 starts dating back to last season. It's been a rough road for Snell, but he has a chance to turn things around tonight. He is (0-5) on the year with a 5.13 ERA and 50 K's in 40 innings.

The offense for the Padres is almost nonexistent right now. They are struggling to score as they have scored two runs or less in five of their last six games. Manny Machado continues to battle as he smashed a homer last night. Jurickson Profar was on a huge tear for the Padres as their leadoff man, however, his scary injury last night will cause him to miss a few weeks with a concussion and neck strain. The lineup will need to find a new lead-off hitter in the meantime as Trent Grisham or potentially Austin Nola could fill the gap.

Final Giants-Padres Prediction & Pick

This is a tough pick. The call to make here is the over at 7.5 even though both sides are struggling on offense. Tonight should be a different game as I expect the bats to be on fire.

Final Giants-Padres Prediction & Pick: Over 7.5 (-112)
