The Washington Nationals and New York Mets continue their 3-game series on Wednesday! It's time to continue our MLB odds series with a Mets-Nationals prediction and pick.

The Mets (21-10) took Game 1 by the score of 4-2. The Nationals (10-21) jumped out to an early 2-0 lead but the Mets scored four straight runs including one in the ninth to secure the win. New York goes for the series win once again as they have pretty much won every series they have played this year besides the split with the Atlanta Braves. The Nationals have lost nine-straight home games. It's clear the team is struggling but you know it's bad when you can't win at home. Nonetheless, this NL East battle should be a good one for Wednesday night.

Why The Mets Could Cover The Spread

The Mets are sending out Tylor Megill, who is off to a hot start this season. In 33.1 innings, Megill has a 2.43 ERA and a (4-1) record to go along with it. His 0.90 WHIP is 9th overall among pitchers and he has a 4.5 K/BB ratio. The 2nd-year starter pitching very well right now and the Mets are benefiting from his production as they have won five of his six starts.

The Mets lineup is one of the best in baseball right now. This is a lineup that lost Michael Conforto to free agency as well, so imagine his value inserted into the 3-5 spot in the lineup. The only starter for the Mets that is hitting over .300 right now is Jeff McNeil, but Mark Canha (.291) and Pete Alonso (.280) are really close. With multiple players managing to get on base at the rate they are then the Mets will surely continue to see success.

They can cover this spread tonight if they continue to pitch well by hoping Megill can last 5+ innings. Megill struck out nine in his last start but earned the loss. In the game prior, he did not allow a hit in five innings of work en route to the Mets' team no-hitter. He should once again propel the Mets to a win tonight.

Why The Nationals Could Cover The Spread

The veteran Aaron Sanchez will get the start tonight against the top-seeded Mets. Sanchez is struggling mightily right now, with an ERA of 8.31 and only nine strikeouts on the season. In 13.2 innings, he's allowed 18 hits and 14 runs. The one bright spot is that he has only walked three batters. Sanchez will need to improve on his last performance where he gave up seven runs in four innings. This will be his first start outside of the tough NL West opponent this season, so there is that.

The Nationals will need to hope that Sanchez can earn them a quality start if they want to cover this spread. Juan Soto and Josh bell can't do this on their own as Nelson Cruz isn't hitting at the level we all thought he would at just .170. The two players with the last name Hernandez are hitting very well this season. Cesar Hernandez is batting .271 from the lead-off spot while Yadiel Hernandez is batting .346in 78 at-bats this season. If those five players can bring consistent offensive production, the Nats will start to improve. But it starts with their pitching.

Final Mets-Nationals Prediction & Pick

This matchup could go either way but taking the Mets and Tylor Megill is the right call for tonight. The Mets should get to Sanchez early while Megill will likely give NY at least five solid innings. The Mets are tied with the New York Yankees and Los Angeles Angels with 21 wins, leading the league. They have a chance to control the MLB once again with a win tonight.

Final Mets-Nationals Pick: Mets -1.5 (-118)
