The San Diego Padres and Atlanta Braves will open a three-game set at Truist Park on Tuesday night. It’s time to continue our MLB odds series and make a Padres-Braves prediction and pick.

Monday's game was postponed due to rain, which pushed the series opener back to Tuesday. The Padres will look to stay hot as they were lighting up the scoreboard against the Washington Nationals over the weekend. Atlanta, on the other hand, has continued to struggle as they watch their season slip away.

Here’s how sportsbooks have set the opening Padres-Braves odds.

San Diego Padres -1.5 (-103)

Atlanta Braves +1.5 (-117)

Over 9 Runs (-105)

Under 9 Runs (-115)

Why The Padres Could Cover The Spread

The San Diego Padres have been one of the best teams in baseball this season, which you wouldn't know because of the division they play in. San Diego is in third place in the loaded NL West behind the Giants and Dodgers. The Padres are 55-41 on the season and currently hold a six-game lead over Philadelphia and Cincinnati for the second wild card spot in the National League.

San Diego had an offensive explosion in Washington this weekend as they put up 41 runs over three games. They put up 24 runs in the series opener and almost slugged their way to a series sweep. The Padres have averaged 5.45 runs per game on the road, which is the second-best mark in all of baseball. They are .500 in road games this season despite a +1.25 average run differential.

The Padres will turn to right-hander Yu Darvish for the series opener. Darvish has been stellar with a 7-3 record and 3.09 ERA through 18 starts. He has struck out a whopping 125 batters through 105 innings of work as well. The veteran right-hander has struggled lately with 10 earned runs allowed over his last nine innings of work against two other NL East clubs.

Why The Braves Could Cover The Spread

The Atlanta Braves have been one of the more disappointing clubs in baseball this season. The Braves are two games under .500 and it's hard to expect any sort of improvement with the injuries that they have sustained. Atlanta is just 4.5 games back of the Mets in the NL East and will have to shore up their pitching staff at the deadline if they'll have any hope of sticking around.

The Braves have been a far better team at Truist Park this season. Although they are just one game over .500, the Braves score the fifth-most runs in the Majors on their home field. Atlanta currently has a +0.74 average run differential in home games. Reigning MVP Freddie Freeman seems to be returning to form and if he can anchor this lineup in a weak division, Atlanta may just have a chance after all.

Atlanta will turn to left-hander Kyle Muller for the series opener. The young southpaw has been effective in his rookie campaign with a 1-2 record and 3.45 ERA through four appearances and three starts. Muller has allowed four earned runs over 14.2 innings of work as a starter this season. He will certainly face his toughest opponent of his young career on Tuesday night.

Final Padres-Braves Prediction & Pick

I fully expect the San Diego Padres to continue their recent offensive dominance in this series. With Kyle Muller making just his fourth career start, the Padres should come out aggressive as they look to knock the young southpaw out early. San Diego just destroyed the Nationals and although they didn't complete the sweep, they looked like one of the most dominant teams in all of baseball. Atlanta just doesn't have enough to stick around with the Padres for nine innings.

FINAL PADRES-BRAVES PREDICTION AND PICK: San Diego Padres ML (-159)
