The Philadelphia Phillies and New York Yankees will conclude their quick two-game set at Yankee Stadium on Wednesday night. It’s time to continue our MLB odds series and make a Phillies-Yankees prediction and pick.

New York took the opener by a score of 6-4 on Tuesday night. Domingo German gave the Yankees four strong innings and handed it to the bullpen to shut the door. New York’s offense stayed hot as they homered four times in the win. The Phillies will look to salvage the series and gain ground on the Mets in the NL East.

Here’s how sportsbooks have set the opening Phillies-Yankees odds.

Philadelphia Phillies (-105)

New York Yankees (-105)

Over 10 Runs (-115)

Under 10 Runs (-105)

Why The Phillies Could Cover The Spread

The Philadelphia Phillies enter play just 2.5 games back of the New York Mets in the NL East. Philadelphia is 20-29 on the road and 47-46 on the season. They have been playing great baseball over the past couple of weeks with wins in five of their last seven games to date. The Phillies are quickly climbing in the standings with four-straight series victories as well. With the power trio of Bryce Harper, Andrew McCutchen, and Rhys Hoskins all active, Philadelphia will be in a good position to bounce back.

The Phillies will turn to right-hander Spencer Howard as they look to salvage the series. Howard has been ineffective this season with a 0-2 record and 5.82 ERA through nine outings. The Phillies starter has been more effective since manager Joe Girardi decided to shorten his outings though. Howard has allowed three earned runs or fewer in each of his last three starts coming in. He will look to continue building on his recent success against a hot Yankee lineup.

Why The Yankees Could Cover The Spread

The New York Yankees are quickly starting to click as they look to gain ground in the AL East. The Yankees are now seven games back of the Boston Red Sox in the division and four games behind the Oakland Athletics for the second wild-card spot. New York has been red-hot with wins in eight of their last 11 games to date to improve to 49-44 on the season. They are now three games over .500 at home thanks to the recent play of some promising rookies getting time with many key players on the shelf because of their recent COVID outbreak.

With all of the unavailable pitchers for New York right now, the Yankees will turn to right-hander Asher Wojciechowski for his first start of the season. Wojciechowski has been ineffective in Triple-A with a 0-1 record and 5.68 ERA through four appearances and three starts. He is coming off of his best start of the season however and will look to build on the success in his first start for New York.

Final Phillies-Yankees Prediction & Pick

I am going to fade the public and pick the under to hit in this game. Although these starting pitchers have been less than impressive, I expect both to have short outings. With the bullpens playing a big factor, it’s likely that scoring will be at a premium. The Yankees have one of the deepest and most effective bullpens in baseball. The Phillies, on the other hand, have been inconsistent out of the pen, which favors ultimately the Yankees. It’s also possible that the Yankees young, inexperienced lineup sees a slight regression as well.

FINAL PICK: Under 10 Runs (-105)
