The Texas Rangers and Los Angeles Angels will finish a four game series on Monday night after the Angels took two of the first three contests. It’s time to continue our MLB odds series and make a Rangers-Angels prediction and pick.

Texas currently stands at 48-88 and is a miserable 17-51 on the road. If you put $100 on every single Rangers game so far this season, you’d be down $2,083 on the money line.

Los Angeles currently stands at 68-69 and is 38-33 at home. If you put $100 on every single Angels game so far this season, you’d be down $278 on the money line.

Here’s how sportsbooks have set the Rangers-Angels odds.

Why The Rangers Could Win This Game

The Rangers starter tonight doesn't have much experience yet, but he's shown some signs that should leave Rangers fans impressed.

A.J. Alexy only has five major league innings on his resume, but it was certainly a solid start to his career. He threw five scoreless innings and only allowed one hit to the Colorado Rockies in his first outing.

Alexy has shot through the minor league system this year, advancing all the way from AA to the big leagues in just a few months. The righty has stood out for his propensity to mow through hitters. In 65 innings for the Rangers AA and AAA teams, he struck out 76 batters.

Considering the Angels currently have eight players with a chase rate of 30% or higher (the MLB average is 28.3%) we could see plenty of swings and misses tonight in L.A. If Alexy gets his strikeout pitch working, it's doubtful the Angels hit much against him.

At the plate, the Rangers match up against Jaime Barria. Barria has two major weaknesses that go hand in hand: shaky control of the plate and the inability to give the Angels distance.

In just 38 innings of work this year, Barria has already walked 15 batters. In five of his nine outings, he's allowed two free passes or more.

Because Barria walks a ton of batters, his pitch count skyrockets in early innings, and he's almost always dealing with constant traffic on the base paths. This leads to short outings, and a bullpen with the eighth highest ERA in the league having to eat innings.

In six of Barria's nine starts, he's failed to reach the fifth inning. The Angels ended up losing five of those six games. The Rangers best hope is to do their best to wait Barria out. If they get to the bullpen early, and the Rangers odds to win skyrocket.

Why The Angels Could Win This Game

The biggest advantage for the Angels tonight is in the batter's box. The Rangers have been one of the worst hitting offenses all year, and this is amplified on the road.

The Rangers are batting just .222 on the road with a measly .647 OPS. Their lineup has been icy ever since the All-Star break, putting together the second worst OPS in the league at .639.

Jaime Barria has had his struggles this year, but he's essentially been handed an opportunity to better his ERA on a silver platter with this lineup.

The Rangers rank second to last in RBI's produced, walks drawn, and total batting average. Barria struggles with his control, but this disappears against a team that doesn't take walks.

Another positive sign for Angels backers tonight is that Barria's pitching numbers show a clear uptick against subpar teams. Against teams over .500, he's pitched 25.1 innings and allowed 18 earned runs. Against teams under .500, Barria has allowed four earned runs in 13 innings.

Considering the Rangers are one of the worst offensive team in the league, Barria is due for a positive start.

Final Rangers-Angels Prediction & Pick

This is a battle of two unproven but potentially electric arms. I don't see either starter getting shelled tonight, considering the quality of the offenses that opposes them. The biggest threat to the under is these poor bullpens being forced to potentially cover four innings apiece, but neither of these squads really scare me at the plate. The Rangers have topped 3 runs in only half of their last ten road games, and the Angels haven't cashed a team total in four straight games. I'll back these pitchers potential over offenses that have shown us their weaknesses all season. Take the under.

FINAL RANGERS-ANGELS PREDICTION: UNDER 9 RUNS (-115)
