The Boston Red Sox will take on the Toronto Blue Jays in the second of a three-game set on Wednesday night. It’s time to continue our MLB odds series and make a Red Sox-Blue Jays prediction and pick.

Toronto took the first game of the series in commanding fashion, defeating the Red Sox by a score of 8-0. Blue Jays ace Hyun Jin Ryu threw a gem and the offense certainly provided enough run support to pull away early. The first-place Red Sox will look to even the series with a big bounce-back performance in this crucial series with a division rival.

Here’s how sportsbooks have set the opening Red Sox-Blue Jays odds.

MLB Odds: Red Sox-Blue Jays Odds

Boston Red Sox +1.5 (-176)

Toronto Blue Jays -1.5 (+156)

Over 10 Runs (-105)

Under 10 Runs (-115)

Why The Red Sox Could Cover The Spread

The Boston Red Sox have slowed down a bit in the month of May, but still hold onto first place in the American League East for the moment. The Blue Jays are breathing down their necks in the division and will definitely be right there at the top of the division as the season progresses. With the way the Red Sox have hit the ball this year, it's very hard to believe that they will replicate their game-one performance.

JD Martinez has bounced back in a big way this season, hitting .342 with 10 homers and 33 RBI. It's amazing to note that he does not lead his club in any of those categories, though. Rafael Devers leads the way with 11 long balls and 34 RBI on the young season. Xander Bogaerts is batting .344 and this big three are currently leading the way for one of the best lineup's in all of baseball.

Getting the start will be hard throwing right-hander Garrett Richards. Richards is currently 3-2 with a 3.89 ERA on the year. He has pitched very well of late, going 2-0 over his last two starts to date. Richards has struggled against Toronto over his career, but will look to carry the momentum of his recent starts to turn the tides in this pivotal affair.

Why The Blue Jays Could Cover The Spread

The Toronto Blue Jays have stayed right at the top of the division despite the injuries they've had to face early in the season. The Blue Jays have won back-to-back series and will look to clinch their third-straight series with a win in this game.

Despite the absence of George Springer for most of the year, the Blue Jays lineup hasn't missed a beat. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is having a breakout season and proving that he is in fact what everyone imagined he would be. Guerrero is hitting .319 with 11 home runs and 30 RBI. He has hit home runs in each of his clubs past three games and it seems his recent success is contagious.

Toronto right-hander Ross Stripling will get the nod for his club. Stripling is currently sitting at 0-2 with a 5.91 ERA on the young season. He has really struggled to go deep into games and tends to cut into the Blue Jays pen every fifth day. Although he has allowed at least two runs in every start this season, Stripling is certainly coming off of his best start of 2021 against the Braves.

Final Red Sox-Blue Jays Prediction & Pick

The Boston Red Sox will bounce back in this ballgame. I'm not sure that they'll come away with the victory, but I can confidently say that they'll stick around throughout. Ross Stripling has been Toronto's weakest starter this season and will give Boston a great opportunity to get the bat's going after a dreadful start to the series. The Blue Jays have been great at home, but the Red Sox will be the better team in this game.

FINAL PICK: Boston Red Sox +1.5 (-176)
