The New York Yankees are playing host to the Cincinnati Reds for game one of this three-game series. The Yankees are currently the best team in baseball while the Reds have some catching up to do. The last time these two teams met was in July 2017 when the Yankees took three of four in that series. Who will come away with a victory tonight? It’s time to continue our MLB odds series with a Reds-Yankees prediction and pick.

Why The Reds Can Cover The Spread/Win

The Cincinnati Reds are currently in last place in the NL Central with a 32-54 record and 15.5 games back from the Brewers. The Reds shockingly swept the Rays in this past series, but now move on to face an even better team from the AL East, the Yankees. Throughout the season, the Reds are averaging 4.27 runs per game but are dead last when it comes to pitching as they have a collective 5.30 ERA. The Reds are much healthier than they were a few weeks ago, but that shouldn't be saying much as practically their whole team has seen an injury or two this season. Rookie pitcher Graham Ashcraft will make his 10th career start tonight having gone 4-2 with a 4.35 ERA. He'll try to hold off the Yankees tonight.

Why The Yankees Can Cover The Spread/Win

The New York Yankees are coming off a split series against their all-time rivals, the Red Sox. But that doesn't do much to their record as they're still the best team in baseball, leading not only the AL East but the entire league with a 61-25 record. The Yankees are also the highest-scoring team in baseball as they score 5.23 runs per game, along with their pitching allowing the third-best collective ERA at 3.04. Aaron Judge is the clear MVP so far as he leads the league in home runs (30), RBIs (65), and runs scored (67). Starting on the bump for the Yankees will be Gerrit Cole for the 17th time this season as he is showing an 8-2 record with a 3.26 ERA.

Final Reds-Yankees Prediction & Pick

Let's be honest here, unless you're betting on a miracle, I wouldn't even be looking at this game. It could be there for a potential easy parlay build, but I'd be surprised if the Reds get a single win in this series, let alone cover the spread. The odds aren't worth it anywhere on the board except for maybe the over. The Yankees can put up runs and the Reds might get lucky here and there for a few runs. Let's keep it short and sweet, don't even look at the run line or moneylines unless, again, you're betting on a miracle. Take the over.

Final Reds-Yankees Prediction and Pick: Over 8.5 (-114)
