An AL Central showdown is in the works as the Chicago White Sox will seek another victory against the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday. Join us for our MLB odds series, where our White Sox-Tigers prediction and pick will be revealed.

The White Sox enter play after downing the Tigers 9-5 on Monday, as Chicago maintained a high-scoring attack and was able to record key outs en route to the victory. Still three games below .500 at 28-31. the White Sox will call upon RHP Dylan Cease with his 4-3 record and 3.14 ERA.

With the expectation that Detroit would be in rebuild mode heading into 2022, the Tigers seem to live up to that narrative 60 games into the campaign. After a third-place division finish in 2021 with a 77-85 record, the Tigers will try to fight their way back into Wild Card contention by sending fellow righty Drew Hutchison to take on Chicago. Hutchison is seeking his first win of the season, as he is 0-3 with a less than ideal 4.60 ERA on the year.

Why The White Sox Could Cover the Spread

Throughout the 2022 season, the White Sox have remained consistent in the fact that they have yet to string together enough runs to challenge the Twins who occupy the top spot in the American League Central. When looking at this team on paper, there are definitely some holes that need to be addressed, but injuries have also taken its toll on this squad that has looked promising, to say the least over the course of the last couple of seasons.

Regardless, Chicago has a major advantage when it comes to their expected starter in Dylan Cease. It is rare a single player in the sport of baseball can make such an impact on the outcome of a contest, but look no further than the 26-year-old, who has been a thorn in the Tigers' sides throughout his short career.

Bafflingly, Cease has yet to go down in defeat against Detroit, as he is 9-0 with a 2.08 in just over 56 innings thrown against the Tigers. Additionally, Cease has struck out 67 Tigers batters over that time and has only surrendered 17 walks.

With Chicago's offense slumping with the fourth-fewest runs in the majors thus far, hopping along the Cease train may be the White Sox' best bet in their chances of covering the spread.

Why The Tigers Could Cover the Spread

Coming off a motivating series win against Toronto, Detroit couldn't quite carry the momentum that was garnered after losing to the White Sox on Monday. Luckily for the Tigers, Detroit's record at home has been far more superior in comparison to out on the road, and they still have six matchups remaining during their ten-game home stand at Comerica Park.

While it is always a bit sketchy for a starting pitcher to be making his first start of the season during the month of June, Hutchison has proved that he can have success against the White Sox, most recently coming on April 8th in which he tossed a pair of scoreless innings.

While Detroit may struggle to find to score runs on Tuesday, they have had a clear advantage over the White Sox when it comes to their pitching prowess. In fact, Detroit has been one of the better pitching units in the majors, as the Tigers have the twelfth best ERA at 3.79 and have also held hitters to a combined .233 batting average.

Final White Sox-Tigers Prediction & Pick

Can the Tigers finally get to Cease? These two clubs have obviously struggled throughout the majority of 2022, as each side desperately needs to start winning to turn their season around. Acting out as the underdogs at +1.5, Detroit has to get to Cease early and often to have a chance of covering. While they may not necessarily win on Tuesday, they should have what it takes to make things interesting.

Final White Sox-Tigers Pick: Tigers +1.5 (-105)
