The Chicago White Sox will head to The Bronx to take on the New York Yankees in the first of a three-game set on Friday night. It’s time to continue our MLB odds series and make a White Sox-Yankees prediction and pick.

Chicago currently holds the best record in the American League at 26-16. New York is climbing its way up the AL East with a record of 24-19 coming in. A battle between two American League powerhouses should feature a ton of runs over the weekend.

Here’s how sportsbooks have set the White Sox-Yankees odds.

MLB Odds: White Sox-Yankees Odds

Chicago White Sox -1.5 (+155)

New York Yankees +1.5 (-175)

Over 8 Runs (-113)

Under 8 Runs (-107)

Why The White Sox Could Cover The Spread

The White Sox currently hold the best record in the American League and sit at the top of the latest MLB Power Rankings. They've been a top team in all aspects of the game and have gotten elite contributions from some unexpected sources. The White Sox are currently second in runs scored and third in runs allowed per game. The pitching staff is full of talent and Tim Anderson sets the tone at the top of this lineup. Anderson is hitting .307 with five home runs and seven stolen bases.

Early Cy Young candidate Carlos Rodon will man the mound in the series opener. The White Sox southpaw is 5-1 with a 1.47 ERA on the young season. Despite his early dominance, Rodon is coming off his worst start of the season. The left-hander gave up four earned over 5 2/3 innings of work against the Kansas City Royals in his last start. Rodon's slider has been absolutely filthy this season as batters are hitting just .029 against it.

Why The Yankees Could Cover The Spread

The Yankees are starting to heat up as the bullpen continues to dominate and bats start to come alive. DJ LeMahieu sets the tone at the top of this lineup and has been heating up of late. The Yankees infielder is hitting .304 with five RBI over his team's last seven games. The lineup is loaded with sluggers behind him, so if DJ can get some of his power numbers up, watch out. New York has been known for its offense over the past few seasons, but it's the pitching staff that has been so impressive to start the season. New York allows the fourth-fewest runs per game in the league.

Jordan Montgomery will get the nod in the series opener against the White Sox. The Yankees left-hander is 2-1 with a 4.75 ERA on the young season. Montgomery is coming off a rough start against the Baltimore Orioles that saw him last just three innings. He has shown flashes of brilliance this season as he struck out nine batters over six innings of one-run ball against the Tampa Bay Rays back on May 11. The southpaw's off-speed pitches have been very effective to start the year. If he can locate his fastball a bit better, Montgomery has the ability to go deep into ballgames.

Final White Sox-Yankees Prediction & Pick

Both teams have been playing very well of late, so this is basically a tossup. New York is at home and has been dealing over the past few weeks. There is good value on the Yanks as they are the dog despite their recent success against the AL Central. In what could very well be a low-scoring affair, I'm riding with the better bullpen to come away victorious in the first game of this series.

FINAL PICK: New York Yankees ML (-104)
