The first-place New York Yankees take on the scuffling Baltimore Orioles in a AL East showdown on Monday between two teams that are not necessarily fond of one another. Check out our  MLB odds series, where our Yankees-Orioles prediction and pick will be revealed.

The Yankees come into battle fresh off a 5-1 victory over the White Sox, a series that saw New York take three of four over the weekend. New York now sits at 25-9 and will look to improve that impressive mark with RHP Luis Severino in line for the start.

While expectations were considerably low for the Orioles heading into the 2022 MLB season, the sluggish start is no surprise. At 14-21, Baltimore is in fourth place in the division. Getting the nod on the bump against the Yankees is righty Kyle Bradish, who has compiled a 1-1 record and 4.24 ERA up to this point.

Why Yankees Could Cover The Spread

The Yankees are absolutely the real deal, and with good cause. New York won 11 games in a row earlier this season and is continuing to play great baseball now. After that streak was snapped and then two games were postponed, the Yankees have since won seven of their last nine, including a mostly dominant series against the White Sox in which they won three of four in Chicago.

With the second-best pitching staff according to team ERA in the majors with a 2.74 mark and also sixth in runs offensively at the plate with 167 total, the Yankees can get the best of you in multiple ways.

The opposition has been having to bow to the all-powerful Aaron Judge, who has punished squads at the dish with a .296 batting average and 12 home runs, which both are team-high marks. His fellow colossal partner-in-crime Giancarlo Stanton has also has quite the productive season, as he has racked up plenty of RBI over the past couple weeks. Stanton has driven in 31 runners while also maintaining a .290 batting average and swatting 10 home runs over the fence himself.

Already off to one of their best starts in franchise history, the Yankees are fortunate to have Luis Severino on the hill against a team that he has historically had great success against. In his career versus Baltimore, Severino is 6-1 with a 3.59 ERA in nine starts. Severino racked up 58 strikeouts in those nine outings while also obtaining good control by only walking 15 batters.

On the young season, New York is 18-15 ATS through 33 games played.

Why Orioles Could Cover The Spread

While this series marks the second time these two franchises have squared off in 2022, Baltimore actually took advantage of the Yankees back in April during a three-game set, as the Orioles outscored New York 9-7 over that stretch. That was in the early stages of the 2022 campaign, though, and this Yankees squad that the Orioles must face on Monday evening is an entirely different bunch from when they last went to war on the diamond.

However, while Baltimore may be currently seven games under the .500 mark, don't sleep on some playmakers that could change the outcome in this one and also give their team a chance in covering the spread.

With young star centerfielder Cedric Mullins leading the charge in the home runs department with a total of five, names like left-fielder Austin Hays and first-baseman Ryan Mountcastle have been doing their part in ensuring a sense of mortality when opposing pitchers are tasked in facing the Baltimore lineup.

After a disastrous weekend in Detroit that saw them get swept and score a total of three runs in doing so, the Orioles would love nothing more to generate some offense against a rival like the New York Yankees.

With the lack of runs being chalked up lately, the pressure to hold the Yankees at bay will be at an all-time high for Kyle Bradish, who pitched rather effectively after holding St. Louis to only two runs on four hits and fanned an absurd 11 batsmen in his last start six days ago. The 25-year-old pitcher from Goodyear, Arizona, has yet to go to battle on the bump against the Yankees in his career.

Final Yankees-Orioles Prediction & Pick

All signs point to the Yankees handling the Orioles on Monday night, especially with Severino in line for the start and his general success in his career against Baltimore. New York stays scorching hot and continues to chug along by covering the spread versus the Orioles.

Final Yankees-Orioles Prediction & Pick: Yankees -1.5 (-118)
