Free agent Trevor Story is one of the most talented shortstops in all of baseball. He has a lethal combination of power and speed while playing a premium position. According to MLB Marathon on Twitter, the Yankees, Cardinals, and Red Sox have all displayed interest in the all-star shortstop.

It should be noted that he is coming off of a down season in 2021. Story hit just .251 with 24 home runs and 20 stolen bases, which by most measures is still a tremendous season. But this is the same player who clubbed 35 homers while hitting over .290 back in 2019. So decline could be a factor to consider, but at 29 years old he should still have plenty left in the tank.

A reunion with Nolan Arenado in St. Louis would be interesting. The duo played together in Colorado for multiple seasons and formed a star-studded duo for the Rockies. But Arenado was dealt to the Cardinals last season and it became clear that Colorado was entering a rebuild. Story may opt to sign with the Cardinals and re-join his former superstar teammate. Playing alongside Arenado would provide an important level of comfortability.

But the Yankees have money to spend and they have been linked to the shortstop since the beginning of free agency. New York has also been rumored to have interest in Carlos Correa, but Story could certainly be an option for the team.

The Red Sox were the final team mentioned in the Tweet, but their connection with Story feels a bit peculiar. Boston already has a star shortstop in Xander Bogaerts and Story may not have a desire to move to second base.

The fact is that Story will have plenty of potential suitors and he figures to play a pivotal role for which ever team he ends up with this season.
