The Toronto Blue Jays are hoping to bolster their playoff odds for the 2021 MLB season by acquiring Adam Cimber and Corey Dickerson from the Miami Marlins.

Jon Heyman of MLB Network reported the Blue Jays are sending veteran infielder Joe Panik to the Marlins, with Scott Mitchell of TSN later reporting pitching prospect Andrew McInvale is also headed to Miami.

This is hardly a blockbuster and will not garner a ton of headlines a little over a month before the 2021 MLB trade deadline. Nevertheless, it's a tremendously important move for the Blue Jays.

Toronto's bullpen has been a bit of a mystery all season, especially at the end of games. The  Blue Jays rank below league average with a 60 percent save conversion rate. Their relievers rank 18th out of 30 teams in fWAR and are 19th in walk rate, with the free passes really helping contribute to some of the struggles.

Cimber's arrival is of massive importance. The 30-year-old had been a terrific asset for the Marlins because he relies on deception. Cimber is a sidewinder who keeps hitters off balance and typically excels at keeping hitters on the ground. He should be a boon for the Blue Jays in the middle innings.

Dickerson is currently in a walking boot and, when healthy, is likely to be more of a bench piece given the state of Toronto's outfield. Still, he can be a nice left-handed bat off the bench.

The Marlins, meanwhile, will open up left field to young outfielder Jesus Sanchez on more of a full-time basis.
