Why Seattle Could Win This Game
It has been a disappointing domestic season for the Seattle Sounders, but they have pleased their fans with a win in the CONCACAF Champions League. Due to that, the Sounders will be playing for the Club World Cup, but until then, they need to get their things together in the MLS. With just seven points from eight games, they are last, but Seattle has up to four more games to play to catch up in terms of games played.
The best place to start winning games again is their Lumen Field in a game versus Minnesota United. They have already won their first match with Minnesota, beating them 2-1 away from home. Now, the same foe is waiting again and Seattle should be in a position to win again. With a win here, they would be able to start mounting a possible surprise playoff run, given the fact that even with their poor start, the playoffs are just eight points away.
The biggest reason why Seattle could win this match, together with the fact they have already won against Minnesota, is that, even though they already have five losses on the season, only one has been by more than a single goal. In two of the five losses, they conceded late goals, including a shock defeat to San Jose Earthquakes, where they led by 2-0 and 3-1, just to lose 4-3. Clearly, they have the talent, and with the MLS to concentrate on, they should be back to winning ways.
Why Minnesota Could Win This Game
Minnesota United has the potential to be one of the best teams in the Western Conference. Unfortunately, they do not have consistency. For a club that had four straight undefeated games to start the season, they lost four of their last six. Despite winning two in a row after two defeats, Minnesota was unable to continue that and again lost two in a row. As their season has gone, they have a lot to desire for. It can all change with a string of positive results, so they should be very motivated to win this match.
To be perfectly fair to Minnesota, they were not lucky in some games. For instance, Cinncinati grabbed a 93rd-minute winner to get a win in the last game Minnesota played. Before that, they had a massive point in the bag versus conference leaders LAFC, but a late collapse turned a 0-0 draw into a 2-0 loss. However, if they are able to score a goal first, which they have done in all of their wins and one draw, they should be able to ice the game and win it.
Last but certainly not least, Minnesota lost at home to the same opponent, so there should be an element of revenge for them. Getting one back on the Sounders would do wonders for the confidence of Minnesota players, especially as they have a massive game versus LA Galaxy coming up after this one. Even though the Sounders will not be an easy opponent, Minnesota needs this win too much to not give it their all to get all three points.
