Moon Knight episode 3 ending explained

Moon Knight, Marvel, EntertainmentThe previous episode ended with Marc Spector gaining control over the body he's sharing with Steven Grant and waking up in Egypt. In this latest chapter, the episode starts with Layla planning to sell the golden scarab with an old lady creating a fake passport for her. The scene then shifts to Ethan Hawke's Arthur Harrow using the scarab he stole previously to find Ammit's tomb in the desert. The cult leader is then informed that Marc Spector is in Cairo tracking him down.

At that point, Oscar Isaac's Spector is seen engaging several individuals with knives to learn where Harrow is. After beating the bejeezus out of them, a reflection of Steven Grant is seen, and Spector blacks out right after. He is then seen riding a cab going to the airport.

Marc then sees the two men he previously fought on the roof and chased them again in the streets of Cairo. He then encounters Steven again in a reflection, causing him to lose control of his body. After regaining consciousness, Marc returns to see him killing one of Harrow's men while the other commits suicide rather than giving up the location of Harrow.

Spector then confronts Steven and threatens him to stay out of his way. Meanwhile, Khonshu blacks out the sky to send a signal to the other Egyptian gods and call for their aid. Harrow, for his part, orders his men to continue digging, despite the sky going dark.

At that point, Marc enters a door that leads him inside the Great Pyramid of Giza, a location where the other Egyptian gods have convened, like Horus and Osiris. The council then speak to Khonshu through Marc and threaten to banish him if he ever darkens the sky again.

The council then informs Khonshu that they do not involve themselves anymore with the affairs of mortals. He then pleads for Harrow to be judged. At that point, the cult leader is then summoned and pleads his case before the gods. Harrow then focuses his argument on the instability of Khonshu's human avatar and his multiple personalities. He added that Khonshu is taking advantage of Spector's broken mind.

After hearing Harrow's case, the gods called on Spector to speak on his behalf. The mercenary then admits that he is, indeed, unwell but calls them out that the one on trial is Harrow himself. The gods conclude that the cult leader has done no crime, effectively ending their council.

Yatzil, avatar of the god Hathor, advises Marc to find Senfu's sarcophagus to help him locate Harrow and Ammit's tomb. As he's searching the black market, Marc encounters Layla, who then points him in the direction of antique dealer Anton Mogart.

Mogart greets the pair and allows them to investigate the sarcophagus. Spector realizes that he cannot solve the puzzle without Steven's help. The antique dealer then stops them from checking the map out as Harrow suddenly arrives. The cult leader then makes an offer for Mogart to turn his back on Layla and Marc. He then goes on to melt the sarcophagus, much to everyone's surprise.

For his part, Marc summons Moon Knight to fight Harrow and Mogart's men while Layla tries to examine the map's remains. Steven's Mr. Knight momentarily gains control as Layla engages a henchman larger than her. Spector, who becomes the dominant personality once again, confronts Mogart and defeats him.

As the two escape by car, Layla confronts Marc about what Harrow said earlier about the mercenary keeping something important from her. The pair then argue about secrets, leaving them in a tense situation as they try to piece the burnt map together. He tries to solve the puzzle before him but realizes that it can only be done with Steven's help.

As the map is finally pieced together by Steven using tape, the location of Ammit's tomb is revealed. The thing is, the constellation chart will only make sense if the stars aligned the same way when the code was written. Due to this challenge, Khonshu comes out and manipulates the sky with Steven's Mr. Knight to how it was 2,000 years ago to help pinpoint the tomb's exact coordinates. His meddling leads the other Egyptian gods to push through with their threat of locking Khonshu up inside a stone idol.

This leaves Marc and Steven without the ability to summon Moon Knight. Harrow then converses with the stone idol containing Khonshu and tells him that he will summon Ammit. The episode ends with the cult leader saying that Khonshu's torment forged him into who he is now.

What just happened? A Moon Knight episode 3 recap

The crux of the whole episode revolved around Marc and Khonshu's quest to reach Ammit's tomb before Harrow does. As the pair did, they encounter avatars of the old Egyptian gods, who were unwilling to aid them in their fight against Harrow. At the same time, their threat to imprison Khonshu if ever he manipulates the sky again was laid clear on the pair.
As the episode progressed, Marc and Layla discover another means to find Ammit's tomb. The challenge came in the form of Anton Mogart and how the map in his possession was damaged. This forced Marc to surrender control of the body to Steven, who then proceeds to repair the said map. This time, though, another challenge surfaced when the map would only work under the same circumstances 2,000 years ago.
Khonshu then goes against the gods and manipulates the sky once again to find the tomb's coordinates. This compelled the council to imprison him in a stone idol, effectively cutting Marc and Steven from their source of power. Harrow, meanwhile, finds a way toward the imprisoned Khonshu and tells him that he'll finish what he started, which is summoning Ammit in the name of justice.
This leaves both Marc and Steven a lot more helpless than where they were before. It remains to be seen how the absence of Khonshu will play during next week's new episode of Moon Knight.
