The two-and-a-half-week-long MSI 2021 Championships in Iceland concluded Sunday with Royal Never Give Up defeating DWG KIA 3-2 in the Grand Final. RNG becomes the MSI 2021 Champions, taking home $75,000.

China's Royal Never Give Up (RNG) defeated the Worlds' reigning champions DWG KIA from South Korea. RNG and DWG KIA traded wins, with RNG gaining the upper hand to become the MSI 2021 Champions.

The team performed dominantly during the tournament, right from the Group Stage. From their Group A, RNG scored 8-0, securing them a spot in the Rumble Stage. It was at this stage that RNG fought the reigning champions for the first time in the tournament. DWG KIA performed splendidly here, scoring 8-2 to secure the top spot in the Rumble Stage. However, a foreshadowing of things to come occurred during this stage. RNG defeated DWG KIA during the Group Stage, chipping the invulnerable shield of the reigning champions. RNG finished just right below DWG KIA with a score of 7-3.

The eventual MSI 2021 Champions faced up with PSG Talon first, while the World Champions went toe-to-toe with MAD Lions. RNG came out on top of PSG Talon 3-1, allowing them to fight DWG KIA in the Finals fresh. DWG KIA was forced to go for a Game 5 by MAD Lions who narrowly defeated them. Taking the first win in the series, MAD Lions took the next two games, pressuring DWG KIA. They would then win the next two games to put down the Lions once and for all. However, fighting MAD Lions may have taken a toll on DWG KIA, which RNG took advantage of. RNG beat DWG KIA off the back of GALA, who played a fantastic Kaisa, finishing the game with 11 kills, 9 assists, and only 1 death.
