MultiVersus is starting to shift gears as it arrives closer to release, entering a closed alpha testing phase capped off by a showmatch.

MultiVersus Closed Alpha Announced May 19-27

Warner Bros. Games announced that the upcoming Closed Alpha will be coming on May 19-27 for MultiVersus, the all-new free-to-play, platform fighting game featuring various faces from the Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment library, like Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, and Harley Quinn (DC); Shaggy (Scooby-Doo); Bugs Bunny (Looney Tunes); Arya Stark (Game of Thrones); Tom & Jerry; Jake the Dog and Finn the Human (Adventure Time); Steven Universe and Garnet (Steven Universe); and an extraordinary original creature named Reindog.

The Closed Alpha is an invite-only test, so that means regular consumers may not yet be able to get their hands on the game. But this means that there will be influencers and streamers who'll get access, and that means we'll eventually see the game through live streams and through leaks, so keep your eyes peeled.

Meanwhile, the game won't even need to be in the shadows for long, as Warner Bros. Games also announced that a MultiVersus Tournament will be held at the Evo Championship Series on August 5-7. The event will be held in Las Vegas, Nevada, and will feature a lot of different popular and niche fighting games.

Additionally, a new MultiVersus video was released today showcasing two members of the Player First Games development team going head-to-head against two professional FGC players. Player First Games Game Director Tony Huynh and Principal Developer Daniel Kraft took on Tyrell “NAKAT” Coleman and James “VoiD” Makekau-Tyson in a best of three series via the game’s 2 vs. 2 mode. The match also showcased a first look at the Scooby’s Haunted Mansion map, which will be available during the Closed Alpha. Check out the video to see which team came out on top!

The actual MultiVersus release date has not yet been revealed, however, so we'll have to wait a little bit longer for that detail. Needless to say, though, that we're excited to play as the all-powerful Shaggy.
