Denny Hamlin finally scored his first win of the 2021 NASCAR Cup Series. The Team Joe Gibbs Racing star, however, had to keep a stubborn and aggressive Kyle Larson at bay in the final lap when the Hendricks Motorsports driver tried a maneuver that's straight out of a video game. It was a fantastic end to the start of the NASCAR playoffs, and if you missed it, here's how it all went down at Darlington Raceway.

Following the race, Hamlin spoke about Larson's move that he admirably fended off on his way to taking the checkered flag.

Via Jacob Camenker of Sporting News:

“He was going to have to go through me,” Hamlin said.

Even though it took him this long to win a race this season, Hamlin has been an incredibly consistent driver. In 27 starts this year, Hamlin has managed to crack the top five 14 times and top 10 a total of 18 times. Including his win on Sunday, Hamlin now has three top 5s in his past five starts overall.

Larson also gave praises to the winner of the Round of 16 race of the 2021 NASCAR playoffs.

“I didn’t want to wreck him. I just wanted to try to get to his outside there, but he did a great job not really making any mistakes during the last run, and I was having to push really hard in second to try and just stay with him.”

The next round of the 2021 NASCAR playoffs — the Federated Auto Parts 400 Salute to First Responders — will be on September 11 at Richmond Raceway.
