Juan Soto has been struggling this season for the Washington Nationals.

Soto faced high expectations entering the 2022 MLB season. He recorded a historic rookie campaign in 2018 and became a World Series champion in 2019. He earned the 2020 National League batting title and became a first-time All-Star in 2021.

Fans expected Soto to make another leap in 2022. Instead, Soto has fallen short of hitting his usual numbers. Despite this, Soto's confidence is unwavering, as he told Jessica Camerato of MLB.com.

“I’m feeling pretty good, my swings feel very on time,” Soto said. “I’ve just been missing a couple balls and just taking a couple pitches that I shouldn’t take. I’m trying to figure out what is going on. It’s just been up and down the whole year. But at the end of the day, I’m going to figure it out.”

In fact, after he strung a five-game hitting streak from June 8-12, Soto is currently on a four-game slump. He has gone 0-for-14 in that stretch.

Nationals manager Dave Martinez offered his own two cents to MLB.com.

“I think he’s trying to do too much again. We’ve got to get him back to stay really in the middle of the field and stay on top of the baseball,” Martinez said. “He’s getting underneath a lot of balls, and that’s because he’s opening up a little bit.”

Soto's frustration has also affected his fitness — he missed two games against the Braves this week after hurting his right knee.

“I’m just going out there, just trying to push as hard as I can,” Soto said. “My knee is just going up and down, and I’m trying my best. At the end of the day, it’s just my fault. I’m not going to blame anybody, but I’m going to try harder the next time.”

Moving forward, however, Juan Soto is committed to keep on swinging and helping the Nationals move up from the bottom of the NL East.
