The Washington Nationals were soundly defeated by the division-rival Miami Marlins on Tuesday night. Despite the loss, the Nationals did receive some good news. Starting pitcher Stephen Strasburg, who hasn't pitched in over a year, is set to return to the mound, per CBS Sports.

Washington Nationals right-hander Stephen Strasburg will return to the mound on Thursday and face the Miami Marlins, manager Dave Martinez told reporters on Tuesday.

Nationals manager Dave Martinez said that Strasburg will make his highly anticipated return to the mound on Thursday against the Marlins. The veteran right-hander has missed over a year of action due to surgery to repair thoracic outlet syndrome.

Injuries have limited the Nationals hurler to just 11 starts since he secured the World Series MVP for his masterful performance in the Fall Classic in 2019.

Following their title run, the Nationals signed Strasburg to a seven-year, $245 million contract. Little did they know that the ace of their staff would succumb to injuries in the following two campaigns.

However, on Thursday, Strasburg will finally toe the rubber. The Nationals ace won 18 games while pitching to a 3.32 ERA with 251 strikeouts in his last full season in 2019.

Washington, who is returning Strasburg “without limitations”, hopes he can return to that form starting on Thursday against the Marlins.
