NBA 2K22 will be celebrating two milestones: the league's 75th anniversary, and the WNBA‘s 25th anniversary. For the latter, 2K Sports will be releasing an alternate cover to the game's Standard Edition. Dubbed as the WNBA 25th Anniversary Edition, it will feature Chicago Sky's Candace Parker. The 6-time WNBA All-Star makes history as the first female cover athlete for NBA 2K.

Candace Parker decided not to sign with the Los Angeles Sparks earlier this year to join Chicago Sky for a two-year contract. This surprised the league, as Parker has stayed with the team that has drafted her since way back in 2008. However, playing in Chicago allows Parker more time to be with her family, while at the same time being able to compete for the championship.

This will be the third year that NBA 2K will feature WNBA teams. This first happened in NBA 2K20, where all 12 teams of the WNBA can be played in exhibition matches. This expanded in NBA 2K21, where WNBA teams could finally be played with for an entire season in Franchise Mode. We don't know yet what exactly NBA 2K22 has in store for the WNBA, but we'll surely find out when NBA 2K22 comes out in PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, and the PS5 on September 10, 2021.
