We were all treated to a pleasant surprise as we witnessed what was one of the best editions of the All-Star Game on Sunday night. The shift in the contest's format had a tremendous impact on the game as a whole, and it absolutely made the spectacle more enjoyable for everyone.

So much so, that even the players that took part in the game seemed to have been taken aback by how competitive the matchup turned out to be. For Los Angeles Lakers superstar Anthony Davis, he was able to compare the atmosphere of Sunday's contest to a full-blown playoff game.

“Absolutely,” Davis responded when asked if he thought this year's All-Star Game was one for the books, via ESPN's Eric Woodyard. “For the seven I’ve been in, I think this was probably one of the better ones. We were actually out there competing and we were arguing with the refs. It felt like a real playoff game and that’s what makes it fun.”

Davis was outstanding for Team LeBron on the evening, helping his side to a 157-155 victory over Team Giannis. The 6-foot-10 big man even got the game-winning basket on a free-throw attempt. The Lakers forward finished with 20 points (on 9-of-16 shooting), one 3-pointer, nine rebounds, an assist, three steals, and three blocks in just 20 minutes of action.

It will be business as usual for Davis in a few days' time as he reports back to the Lakers for the second half of the season. At 41-12, L.A. has a firm hold on the top spot in the Western Conference, and will look to build on their early season success the rest of the way.
