New York Knicks point guard Dennis Smith Jr. played to the crowd during All-Star Saturday's dunk contest. The second-year player brought out North Carolina rapper J. Cole for a dunk.

Smith Jr. electrified with a fantastic slam, jumping over the recording artist, who threw the ball to him from a chair. Smith Jr. split his legs and soared in for an aggressive dunk.

As the crowd was cheering and the score was being processed, J. Cole decided to unofficially enter the contest himself.

Sure, he missed the dunkĀ but was also not exactly dressed for the occasion.

The only complaint perhaps is that the judges didn't score it. Miles Bridges got grades for his missed attempt. Giannis Antetokounmpo absolutely loved it, though. By the look on his face, he still might've given J. Cole a 10.

There's a reason the rapper has been in the Celebrity All-Star game before, dude can absolutely ball. He played in high school (check the jersey Smith Jr. is wearing) and clearly still has something in the tank.

In the end, this is what you're looking for from NBA All-Star weekend. Silly antics that makeĀ the events more fun. It gets the crowd louder, and the announcers more animated. It allows the players to loosen up more and makes it more enjoyable for the fans watching at home.

He will probably never be invited as an official participant in the NBA's dunk contest. It wouldn't be a surpriseĀ if he was given a chance to throw one down next year though, just for fun.

In fact, let me use this as a chance to make a proposal. Celebrity dunk contest. Come on, that would be hilarious at least. Sure, some could throw down and maybe surprise us, but it would be great to see some try to inventively fly through the air for a dunk they're never going to make.

Dee Gordon anyone?

Even if that does happen, thanks to J. Cole for giving NBA fans something to talk/laugh about for a little longer.
