Ask anyone who's the greatest NBA player of all time and you'll be showered with different answers. A good portion of the hobby would go for LeBron James while some are going to fight tooth and nail for the likes of Kobe Bryant, Bill Russell, or Wilt Chamberlain. But among all of these guys, there's one name who'll rise above the competition – Michael Jordan of the Chicago Bulls.

But it's not only on the court where His Airness is reigning supreme. As it turns out, the sports card industry is also acknowledging Jordan's greatness. Just recently, Goldin Auctions completed a sale of a 1997 Upper Deck Game Jersey patch card numbered 6 out of 23, encased inside a BGS 8 slab. The price? Well, it just went off for $2.7 million dollars.

Before this sale was confirmed, the record for the most expensive Michael Jordan card was at $2.1 million dollars. That said card is also similar to this one, albeit with a different number. At this moment, that title has now moved on to this jaw-dropping banger.

Ken Goldin, founder of Goldin Auctions, said that this is the absolute best of Jordan and can be considered as his flagship card. He added that it's the first game-worn jersey in the set, signed by MJ, and comes from a specific game every basketball enthusiast knows about – the 1992 NBA All-Star Game. The said event is known as the ceremonious farewell game to Magic Johnson, a player that preceded Jordan as one of the league's most recognizable players.

With this stunning Michael Jordan card reaching new heights, there's reason to believe that the ceiling for the hobby has just gotten higher. And with the new NBA season set to open soon, this part of the sports card market can follow the lead of this record-breaking card.
