According to a Tuesday evening report from Shams Charania of The Athletic, the NBA and NBPA have come to an agreement regarding the start of next season and the 2020 NBA Draft. Charania explains that the two sides have agreed to “push back key dates” like the previously scheduled October 16th 2020 NBA raft and October 18th as the start of free agency.

While this will also push back the start of the upcoming 2020-21 season as well, new dates have yet to be determined by the league and NBPA, according to the aforementioned Charania.

The NBA is currently playing out the second round of its postseason slate as only eight teams remain in contention for a title. With the Larry O'Brien Trophy set to be lifted in the NBA bubble this time around due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the league has been operating solely out of Orlando, Florida for the better part of the last two months. With things shaping up nicely down in Orlando, the league will just simply need a little bit of extra time—and the players some additional rest—as this regular season has been unlike any other in NBA history.

The NBA draft and free agency were originally scheduled for June 2020 before getting pushed to October.

As it stands today, the Boston Celtics, Milwaukee Bucks, Toronto Raptors, Miami Heat, Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Clippers, Denver Nuggets and Houston Rockets remain in contention for a championship. With each series remaining quite competitive, it is surprisingly the top-seeded Bucks that find themselves in the most trouble as Milwaukee trails the Heat 3-1 in one half of the Eastern Conference semifinals.
