Report: Coby White works out in New York, despite Knicks being locked on RJ Barrett
The New York Knicks appear to be fully committed when it comes to performing their due diligence for the upcoming draft. Selecting at the No. 3 spot, the Knicks are fully expected to pick Duke freshman standout RJ Barrett. Nonetheless, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, New York has still decided to work out North Carolina point guard Coby White:
UNC guard Coby White — perhaps the fastest rising prospect on the board — had a private workout with the Knicks at team's facility today, league sources tell ESPN. Knicks have been locked on RJ Barrett at No. 3, but summoned White after Darius Garland's workout yesterday.

Barring a drastic turn of events on draft night, the Knicks should be in line to get their main target, Barrett, as the third overall pick. In fact, both the first and second picks — Zion Williamson to the New Orleans Pelicans and Ja Morant to the Memphis Grizzlies, respectively — are also virtually a sure thing, so this is probably just the Knicks erring on the side of caution in case something crazy happens, like a trade back.
For his part, White is not expected to fall too far away from the top three, with the Phoenix Suns a likely option to select the 6-foot-5 point guard with their sixth overall pick. White would be an excellent fit in Phoenix, slotting in nicely as Devin Booker’s new backcourt partner.
In his single season for North Carolina last year, White put up 16.1 points (on 42.3 percent shooting), 2.3 3-pointers, 3.5 rebounds, 4.1 assists, 1.1 steals, 0.3 blocks, and 2.7 turnovers in 28.5 minutes per contest. If he indeed ends up with Phoenix, he would likely emerge as one half of one of the most promising and dynamic backcourt duos in the league alongside Booker.
