The Los Angeles Lakers didn't have a pick in the 2021 NBA Draft after trading for Russell Westbrook, but they may have added NBA-caliber talent to their organization in the minutes after.

Following the signings of versatile former Gonzaga Bulldogs wing Joel Ajayi and high-flyer Mac McClung, the Lakers inked ex-Michigan Wolverines super-sub Chaundee Brown to an exhibit-10 contract, per ESPN's Jonathan Givony.

(An Exhibit 10 contract is a one-year deal that guarantees a training camp invitation.)

Brown, a bruising (6'5, 215) forward with an NBA-ready body and athleticism, came off the bench to average 8.0 points and 3.1 rebounds per game for Michigan in 2020-21. He was an elite finisher around the rim (77.1%!) and shot 41.9% from deep.

Perhaps more importantly, Brown became the heart and soul and key sparkplug for one of the best team's in the nation. Like Ajayi, there is undeniable 3-and-D potential with Brown.

The 20-year old was amongst the contingent of players the Lakers worked out at their El Segundo facility this past month.

Earlier this week, Brown spoke to Michigan legend Jalen Rose on “Jalen and Jacoby” and compared himself to Jae Crowder and P.J. Tucker — both of whom were starters in the recent NBA Finals.

“I look at the three and D guys in the NBA right now, I feel like that would be my role in the NBA,” Brown said. “A lot of PJ Tucker and Jae Crowder mostly I've been watching. The ones that do the dirty work and can hit the open shots, I feel like that will be my role in the NBA. “

Before transferring to Ann Arbor, Brown averaged 10.4 points and 4.7 rebounds across three seasons at Wake Forest.

Chaundee Brown will join McClung, Ajayi, Zavier Simpson, Dakota Mathias, Yoeli Childs, and Vic Law on the Lakers Summer League team, who will begin play on Aug. 8 in Las Vegas against the Phoenix Suns.
