College players seek to continue the transition into professional leagues amidst the coronavirus pandemic. In fact, some recently declared for the NBA draft during the recommended self-quarantine period. These include potential first overall pick, Georgia’s Anthony Edwards, as well as Auburn’s Isaac Okoro. Duke’s Tre Jones is yet another player to declare for the draft.

Kurt Helin of NBC Sports detailed coach Mike Krzyzewski’s discussions with the media regarding Tre Jones’ plans. Multiple mock drafts placed the Duke point guard going in the first round, with several noting him as a possible final first-round pick. A few also projected him to go early in the second round.

The 20-year-old was teammates with now-NBA players Zion Williamson, R.J. Barrett, and Cam Reddish. During his then freshman season, Jones averaged 9.4 points and 5.3 assists. He then expanded his offensive repertoire following their departure to 16.2 points and 6.4 dimes per game. He also improved his 3-point percentage from a measly 26.2 to a respectable 36.1 percent.

Aside from being a threat on the offensive end, Jones has been described as a good leader and a pesky defender. In fact, ACC’s regular season concluded with him being named ACC Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year. There are still doubts, however, about his size and athleticism. Jones is listed as 6 foot 3, weighing at only 185 pounds.

As of now, however, all talks concerning the NBA draft are hypothetical. With the pandemic, the league is likely to focus on the regular season and playoffs before concerning themselves with the draft.
