James Wiseman could be forced to sit out the remainder of his freshman season at Memphis due to eligibility issues, but NBA executives don't believe it will have a significant impact on his draft stock, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.

Wiseman is widely considered the best big man in the country. He's long been a candidate to be selected with the first overall pick in the 2020 draft:

“Will him sitting the year impact him a spot or two? Maybe,” one high-ranking team official said. “But it isn’t impacting his financial base. He is known as a talent.”

This move was designed to quicken a decision from the NCAA, and Memphis officials are optimistic Wiseman will miss fewer than the nine games prescribed under the NCAA’s impermissible benefits rules, sources have told The Athletic.

“The hope is he misses three, maybe six games,” one source with knowledge of the situation said.

Wiseman intends to re-file his lawsuit against the NCAA and Memphis if his season is not saved.

In three games this season with Memphis, Wiseman is averaging 19.7 points and 10.7 rebounds. He's shooting 76.9 percent from the field and 70.4 percent from the free-throw line.

Wiseman was the top high-school recruit in his class.
